Amamoto, Tokyo

Visited Amamoto in Tokyo for what became my new favorite sushi + Japan meal and one of the best ever. Everything was perfect from the otsumami to the nigiri to the tamago with special honey. For the otsumami, the standouts were the whale, shrimp marinated in shaoxing wine, smoked bonito and fried smelt. All incredible but the signature smoked bonito (being prepared in the video) was one of the best bites of seafood I have ever had. The nigiri section was so good too – I loved the rice which was not too vinegary and fit my preference well. Some standouts were the sawara, shima aji, maguro, kohada, uni and giant tiger prawn. The finishing piece was a delicious tamago with some sort of special honey – perfect finish. Chef Amamoto was also incredibly kind. There were more pictures but ran out of room.
