Fresh and Homemade Sushi | Easy Sushi Recipe
Ingredients:
500 g sushi rice
700 ml water
100 ml rice vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
5–6 sheets of nori (seaweed)
fresh tuna
fresh salmon
1 cucumber
1 avocado
Instructions:
Prepare the rice:
Rinse the rice several times with cold water until the water runs clear.
Place the rice in a pot with 700 ml of water, bring to a boil, and cook for 3 minutes until the water starts to thicken.
Cover with a lid and cook for another 1 minute on low heat.
Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 30 minutes so the rice fully cooks and absorbs the liquid.
Prepare the seasoning mixture:
In a small pot, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
Heat until the sugar and salt dissolve (no need to boil).
Season and chill the rice:
Place the cooked rice in a large bowl and pour the warm vinegar mixture over it.
Gently fold with a wooden spoon to keep the rice sticky and well-seasoned.
Cover the bowl with cling film and let the rice cool in the fridge.
Make classic sushi rolls (maki):
Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat and evenly spread a thin layer of rice over it.
Place pieces of tuna, salmon, cucumber, and avocado in the center.
Roll tightly using the mat to shape the sushi.
Slice the roll into pieces with a sharp knife.
Make inside-out rolls (uramaki):
Place plastic wrap or a bamboo mat on a surface.
Place a sheet of nori on the mat and evenly spread rice on the outer side of the nori (rice facing out).
Place tuna, salmon, avocado, and cucumber inside.
Carefully roll and sprinkle with sesame seeds or fish roe if desired.
Slice with a sharp knife dipped in water to prevent sticking.
Make nigiri (simple sushi):
Shape a small oval of rice in your hand.
Place a thin slice of salmon or other fish on top.
Optionally add a small dab of wasabi between the rice and fish for extra flavor.
Serving:
Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
