Anchovy Ranch Dressing
I hate ranch dressing.
I think it’s the most overrated thing ever created in a kitchen.
I think it was made for people who eat chicken tenders for every meal because their parents didn’t feed them real food when they were a kid, but that’s just one man’s opinion.
I did come across a guy on a cooking show making an anchovy ranch and thought, now that’s probably got some flavor, and decided to give it an Easy Eats with Eric twist.
This version is anything but bland. It’s creamy and tangy with a serious umami punch from the anchovies, balanced by the bright zip of lemon and the earthy, herbal notes of za’atar and fresh chives.
It’s ranch for grown-ups who actually like flavor.
Easy Eats Anchovy Ranch Dressing
Easy Eats Ingredients
½ cup sour cream
½ cup buttermilk
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 garlic cloves, crushed
5–10 anchovy fillets (to taste)
2 tsp lemon juice
½ tsp za’atar
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
¼ cup fresh chives, finely chopped
Easy Eats Method
1. In a blender, combine sour cream, buttermilk, mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, za’atar, salt, pepper, and 5 anchovy fillets. Blend until smooth.
2. Taste and add more anchovies (1–2 at a time) if desired. Blend again to incorporate.
3. Transfer to a bowl; stir in fresh chives. Chill before serving.
Easy Eats Tip: Start with 5 anchovies for subtle umami; add more for a stronger flavor. Fresh chives added last retain their color and texture.

It’s basically made for people that eat chicken tenders for every meal because their parents didn’t feed them right when they were a kid. But that’s just one man’s opinion. I did see this guy making this anchovi ranch or ranch chovi on this cooking show the other day and I thought, “Hey, that’s something I can get behind.” It’s got huge bold flavor and it’s super simple to make. Starts with sour cream, mayonnaise, and buttermilk. Add in some garlic, your anchovies. I’m using about 10 here, but do it to your taste. Add in some lemon juice and some seasoning. Get it all blended up. And then add in some fresh chives at the end. Full recipe is going to be down in the description. Make sure to like and subscribe for more easy sauce recipes.
