#biscuit #gravy #chocolategravy
[Music] Hello, it’s me Ricky together with Carol. Welcome back for is not a uh cooking show. Bake. Yeah, baking show. Whatever it is, we’re going to make chocolate gravy for our biscuits. Yeah. And we are going to do uh this one as well. So, we compare. We do two sauce. uh southern style chocolate uh gravy and of course we’re going to do south eastern mills pepper which one we got from you guys and I have already do the butter sweet biscuits. You already done that so that’s perfect. And we’re going to start with um the gravy chocolate gravy. Yeah. And um I didn’t know that was a thing. No. So this is a southern style chocolate gravy too. So, we’re going to put in here and we’re going to start with the the sugar. And that’s going to be a fourth of a cup. And this is a four of a cup right here. Let’s make sure. Yes, it is. And we’re going to get this in the So, this is like a I I guess like a dessert type of thing you can eat with biscuits. Uh so weird. Yeah, it’s very when I read it, I just they are joking with me. But then more comments and more comments. I just what? And a fourth of a cup of cocoa. Well, that’s going to be Hershey’s. Yeah. Gift from you guys. Yes. So, we try to to make it Yeah, it is. It’s chocolate. So, we try to make it as authentic we can. Yeah. Uh, you guys wanted us to try these butter biscuits with sausage gravy, but you know, Sweden, we don’t have the sausage you talk about with the breakfast of the Italian and stuff like that. No, we don’t have that. But we haven’t done biscuits and gravy before everywhere in London. And then we we tried to make it as authentic with the flavors, but it it’s not the same, guys. So we we wanted to try this instead because this we can’t make. So the flour is tablespoons. Three. Is this a tablespoon? Yep. Three. Get over here. Three of these. One, two, three. There you go. Put it over here. I can actually see what Yeah, I got it. And then there was That was it. So, I’m going to mix this. Mhm. There’s no lumps. Okay. And then the milk. The milk. And this is uh two cups two cups of milk like this. Right. That then we’re going to stir it and mix it. And then heat it up. Yeah. And uh going to heat it up and whisk until you feel like the consistency of a gravy is is done. So, we are going to cut these up and half and then we’re going to warm them up because I did this early in the morning. So, we’re going to warm them up a bit and then All right. So, let’s do this. Yep. I got cocoa powder in my nose. Okay. So, let’s put it this eight because nine is super aggressive. M. So, we’re going to add when it comes up to a boil and we can see the consistency that we want. We’re going to take it off on the heat. We’re going to add the butter and the vanilla extract. Yeah. The funny thing is it it says only vanilla, but I guess it’s vanilla extract they mean. Yeah. Because I don’t have vanilla. They don’t mean ice cream, don’t they? It couldn’t be ice cream, but we we’re going to use this one. But it’s not going to be a lot either, right? Two teaspoons. That’s a lot. M. So, but it is a dessert. I guess it’s supposed to be sweet. And uh but this is so strange for me. I mean, we don’t eat biscuits and gravy either. I’m terrified of this. However, one thing that got got it going is that it’s very buttery. So that actually might go really well with the chocolate. I am super eager. I’m a bit nervous. Yeah, me too. But I’m a bit nervous for both because we’re talking about a pepper one to uh to this and then like a thising chocolate. Let’s just go completely bonkers here in the Swedish household of wrecking and Carol. But I do enjoy trying these things. They’re so fun. Super open-minded. But this is the this is the fourth time I’m making these biscuits. I love them. I think they are just great. Yeah. Uh and it’s so easy to do. It’s ridiculous. It’s very easy to do. And it’s and I would love to come to wake up in the morning when you’re done because the entire house just smells absolutely amazing. Yeah. Uh here we go. Starting to get some still very very loose, but it’s actually getting there. But uh when it heats up the flower will It’s like a R. It is. It’s a start of a R but it’s chocolate. It’s so strange. And this one is just uh water and mix. Yeah. Uh blend dry gravy mix into Do you want me to start doing that then? You can uh you can mix whisk this in there. But uh yeah, it’s not a lot of cooking in this video. No, I I did the the baking though. But yeah. Oh there’s over. Yeah, I’m This is Ricky. This is Look at that. I can make a snow angel of this. Okay. Yeah. And uh like I said, we are going to cut them up. We are going to uh open it up and then warm it up a little bit in the microwave just to get it um a little bit more soft. Pour this over and sit down by the table and try. I’m burning it. I’m burning it. Yeah, you need to lower the heat. Oh my goodness. Okay. Okay. Yeah. But when we come back, I think it’s high time to say that because I need to get I mean it’s not nothing else happening. We are going to see that the the gravy is has the the right consistency before we add a little bit of butter. It’s just a tablespoon of butter. It’s It’s getting there really fast now. So, okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I see that. Nice. Yeah. I want to stir until it’s done because I’m burning it. Yeah. But, uh, shall we see you at the table then? I think so. Good idea, honey. Yeah. Don’t go anywhere. Hit like if you enjoy. And we’re back. We are back. This is so strange. But here is the peppered gravy and here is the chocolate gravy. I am super eager to find out. Either way, I do believe that we want to start with the uh the main course. Yeah, exactly. Because that’s going to be that is dessert. So, I’m going to get a big chunk here. Yeah. Yeah. H of course I would love some meat in this sauce. Yeah. So, uh we could have have minced meat and and the spices. I know. Yeah, we know. We know. We do. Let’s do just raw stuff here. Let’s do this. So, next time we do this, we can actually add maybe some pork and and stuff like that. Barbecue, whatever. Let’s go. Three, two, one. This reminds me of um if you put mushrooms in here is our mushroom sandwiches we usually absolutely loved it. Me too as well. Oh my. This gravy is really good. Darn you, America. Have you shown it? Just in case they didn’t saw See. Yeah. Mhm. Oh no. This was delicious. And the best part is I think we have four more of those down in the pantry. We do. We do. That was And the biscuit. I mean the biscuit. I am not going to to make biscuit any other way. No, it’s so fluffy. It’s so buttery. [Music] It’s still strange for me to eat it like this. It’s just is. But now when we see it really works, we can make it our own. with the protein that we want. Maybe a salad and and just it just amazing. It it works together with the the pepper. I love malt. He’s not doing I love mushroom u sauce, mushroom gravy. I that I love it. Um, and we usually do like on a toast with this mushroom gravy on and then top it with cheese. Yeah. And into the oven. It’s so I love it. And this reminds me a bit of that. Just the start of it. Oh, I loved it. Yeah, me too. I am surprised. Very surprised. It had everything I want in in just in a flavor-wise. It had the pepper, a small There’s a there’s a hint of a heat, but it’s a good heat. Peppery. Yeah, exactly. Uh you get the uh the butter from the uh the biscuit. Mhm. Together with that. He’s in my drawer now. He just opened my underwear drawer because he likes to sleep in them like a hairy. One of our cats are really He’s good at bringing back and destroying furniture. Yeah, he’s standing. I always just one pair of sock is m that’s my socks cat. Anyway, I think we should move on. Um 10 out of 10. It’s a 10 out of 10. Absolutely. 10 out of 10. But this one is u some other Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. But this on the other hand is h I am more hesitant for this one. I am more hesitant on this one. I’m a little bit scared of this one. I’m going to I’m going to say be as open-minded as I possibly can. So, we talked about this before and what can go wrong. We got butter and we got um chocolate. And butter and chocolate normally goes together really pretty darn good. So, why not? What the heck is this? Three, two, one, chocolate. Go. Oh my days. Wow. It’s not too sweet. No. Wow. First of all, this reminds me of something. the the bread takes away the intense sweetness and leave you with a a bitter I don’t know I don’t know what I cannot explain the flavor to this honey have you can you try it reminds me of something I actually like it I like the the texture um of the the the biscuits and get the it’s almost like Nutella. They know what Nutella is. Huh? Nutella. Nutella. Yeah, it reminds me of that a little bit. Uh we we when we were kids, we we had it on some kind of sandwich sometimes. I I I don’t eat Nutella. It’s hazelnuts. This the buttery biscuit goes really as we expected honey. As we expected the butter and the chocolate goes really well. I would like actually a little bit more sugar in it. And that’s that is strange for me to say, but I want the chocolate to be a little bit more sweeter than this because it actually made it uh it actually made the chocolate a bit bitter. Mhm. And I do believe that it could be the chocolate that we bought in the Swedish store that actually made it a bit bitter. It’s a because it’s a baking chocolate. No, this is not that, honey. That’s another video. This is the Hershey’s. But that’s why it’s bitter because it’s Hershey’s. I don’t know. But it was what a lot of it was not much sugar in this. There’s a lot of chocolate going on in my head now. Pay no attention to this sweaty fat guy eating chocolate. Uh I’m lost in the woods here. But I actually like it. But a little bit a touch more sugar would be perfect. But it’s it’s Is the chocolate in the teeth? I feel like this chocolate is everywhere. No, you’re good. You’re good. [Music] I love it. It’s It’s so strange, but I like it. I like it. It works really good. Yeah. Here’s here’s me vanilla ice cream with this. Yeah, that would be great, actually. Uh a good almost melted vanilla ice cream. But uh this is the winner for me. Yeah, for me too. This is the winner. Uh well, I do believe that the chocolate made me full. Mhm. In a in a very very harsh way. I feel like Oh, I can’t eat another bite of the chocolate. Maybe too much. I don’t know. I mean, there was nothing there. Too much. I just poured over. Maybe you should have not got this. Dude, this a this a drizzle now. It gets drizzle over. Oh my god, the comments here now. Dash on Carol. Maybe you should just spread the layer of then you take it in a spritzer and then you spritz like this nice around like and you just take poor. I didn’t even shake how much you should have. I liked it though. Oh, I think I think the way we did it is the the way be kind in the comments, please. I have no idea. But I did I I did enjoy this though. And I do believe that we tried the weirdest things that we could possibly imagine. The gravy, the chocolate gravy, uh, and the pepper gravy was amazing. And and that pepper I want to go lay down open up a bunch of new things for me that I want to try with that because that is a good foundation. It’s really nice. M I loved it. All right, that’s another one of the biscuits that we did. Yeah, I liked it. I’m full and I want to go lie down because I do believe the chocolate biscuit brought me to the other side. Uh, it was very filling. Very filling. But but of course I I actually maybe took too much. Just a smidge, honey. Just a smidge. No, it’s it’s it’s going to be fun to read all the comments. Yeah, make fun of us. That’s go ahead. Yeah, go ahead. Be that way. Uh, but I’m going to say this. I actually enjoy doing this. I love going beyond borders when it comes to the comfort of your brain when it comes to food combinations. Uh, and I’m happy that we took this step. And I’m really happy that we both enjoyed this. No matter if it’s a pepper gravy or it’s a chocolate gravy on biscuit, we both liked it. A bit a bit sweeter would be nice. Yeah, I think so. Just a tad more sugar in the mix would be great. or uh uh uh maybe some vanilla ice cream. Uh maybe take you can take like sugar sugar powder on it or something like that. Exactly. Yeah. So, there’s multiple ways to do this. We did it this way. Uh and if you did enjoy, don’t forget to hit the like and subscribe. That’s something that we would greatly appreciate. A big thank you to everyone who supports us on Patreon, of course, our membership. No matter what tier, you guys are completely amazing. And same goes with the PayPal, the GoFundMers, the super thanks, and you, the best community ever, you guys in the comment section. Thank you so much for being kind to us and to each other. I do believe that the world needs that today. And be kind to Carol for drowning the uh biscuit and chocolate gravy. No matter no matter what. I am Ricky. And I’m Carol. You stay safe. [Music]

Alright alright we hear you, its not biscuits and gravy without the sausage, we did it once before, check it out here!
https://youtu.be/Dn-M9LmRPEo?si=4CT8e81z3QXAagyl
Never seen or heard of chocolate on biscuits. I'm from Georgia…we basically invented southern food and that ain't it. Weird. Also, you must use sausage in the white gravy.
Chocolate gravy? Ohhh, a dessert! Never heard of that before and I live in the south. Love browned gravy, but not white gravy. It has to be dark, like a dark roux. Seems like the chocolate gravy and biscuits remind me of a poor man’s doughnut.
😂😂😂 Y’all are killing me at the end!!!
Biscuits are just a base, you can put whatever you want on them, sweet or savory.
Recky is not an American Dad….. he didn't ask for more black pepper.
I've never had biscuits with chocolate gravy. I recently saw it on a restaurant menu; had never heard of it before. But I bet it would also be good with raspberries or strawberries sprinkled on top.
Mexican chocolate would be good, too. Add some cinnamon and cayenne…..voila! Mexican chocolate!
Since it is easier to buy ham in Sweden, you could try making a Red Eye Gravy to serve with ham and biscuits. It is a diner classic breakfast.
Try a dash of cinnamon in the chocolate gravy.
agree with all the other posters- MUST have sausage- its normally sausage white gravy with biscuits- never had chocolate- def not as common- in the south, its a must learn recipe- very comforting
this would be a treat for your neighbors- an american breakfast- biscuits and gravy, fried green tomatoes, eggs, cheese grits, crispy bacon, side of fruit, jams, jellies and butter…french toast casserole is a make ahead….pplease show us a video if you ever host a party for your neighbors- appetizers and cocktails for a holiday party? i would just love to see their reactions to some of the foods youve come to love…
If you take the pepper gravy and add dried chipped beef….you get chipped beef or ( shit on a shingle )
a military staple. Spread over toast or biscuits. YUMMY !
As a Texan, I have never heard of Chocolate gravy. We would always use maple sausage gravy or bacon gravy.
Reading there is no sausage in the gravy?!?!?!?! Sorry not going to bother watching. That's just biscuits and sauce lol
I have never had chocolate gravy. I have heard of it but never had it.
I make biscuits with hamburger gravy. Or chipped beef gravy. It does not HAVE to be sausage. Sausage is the preferred flavor but not the only flavor.
Nooooo! You absolutely have to have the sage breakfast sausage in the gravy and lots of black pepper!
You half assed it! Why? Gravy gets breakfast sausage
Use the chocolate gravy over vanilla ice cream 😊
I grew up eating the best sopping chocolate you could get. That's what we called it. We would eat with biscuits, pancakes, waffles, toast, and even on country ham or streak of lean. My grandma was the sopping chocolate master.
To reheat bread / biscuits and they not be hard from microwave,…just full dampen a papertowel and thoroughly ring it out, then cover your bread to microwave and viola just like it came out of the oven! If you have no "breakfast" sausage you could substitute bratwurst or any sausage you may have that is similar. Try bacon! The butcher should know.
My parents were from South East Missouri. I am not sure if my Mom grew up eating chocolate gravy or where she learned how to make it, but it was always awesome. I love having fried potatoes or hashbrowns with that peppered gravy that you had on top. Awesome. We love watching you both trying different foods
The next time you go to Costco ask if they have any American style sausage. You may be able to find it either in the butcher area or in the refrigerated aisle where you would find bacon and lunch meats (That is where I usually find it). If you get it in a casing, just break it out of the casing.
Now, I will have to try the chocolate gravy on biscuits! Never tried that before. Plenty of buuscuits and sausage gravy. My son likes to add onions to his gravy. Of course he likes the hot sausage in his.
I don't like sausage, so I just do plain gravy. Most people do think of sausage as the meat, but you can use anything you want in it, beef, BACON, etc. Add more sugar if you want the chocolate gravy a bit sweeter. You can have that with fruit as well. Glad to see you enjoyed both!
If you use Hershey cocoa you actually need to use a little less. The quarter cup is perfect for off brand cocoa. Chocolate gravy is a breakfast food, my Grandma always made it on special occasions.
The pot you made the chocolate gravy in must be from Ikea! I have it and love it!
If you can get dried beef/chipped beef you can mix that with the pepper gravy and have it over biscuits. It's called creamed chipped beef(sh*t on a shingle)usually served over toast but biscuits would be delicious too.
Lol 🤣 you are so funny!😂
The hersheys cocoa is fantastic hot cocoa.
you guys should try molé
You have to have sausage gravy and biscuits that aren't made from a packet. There is nothing in the world like homemade sausage gravy and biscuits.
You can add more sugar of you need it
The cap on the vanilla, is equal to one teaspoon. So you can just pour it in the cap, and don't have to use a measuring spoon!
I had sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast today. I cheated and bought the gravy in a microwaveable pouch and the biscuits in a can (aka shotgun biscuits).
I grew up in Kentucky, but I had never heard of chocolate gravy until some girls from southeastern Kentucky were talking about it. As much of a chocoholic as I am, it just doesn’t sound good to me. Now – if you put it over vanilla ice cream … yum! 😋
If you don’t have sausage then chop up some bacon . We do that often too.
Anytime you cook meat in a skillet you can use the fond or pan drippings to make white/milk gravy. Just make sure there is 2-3 tablespoons grease (add butter if necessary) and sprinkle an equal amount of flour into the grease. Stir and cook the flour until lightly toasted, just a few minutes. While stirring slowly add milk and scrape up the loosened fond, add about a cup of milk for each tablespoon of flour. Add more or less depending on how thick you want the gravy. Salt and pepper to taste. Continue stirring until gravy starts to bubble. Serve over biscuits, potatoes, meat, or whatever.
This is especially great over mashed potatoes and country/chicken fried steak.
If you can buy minced pork, you can make American Breakfast sausage by mixing in a few seasonings. 1 teaspoon Dried Sage, 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme, 1/4 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika, pinch of nutmeg, 1 tsp Salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon brown sugar added to 450 grams of minced pork. Mix well and let it sit in the fridge overnight.
I've lived in the south for many years of my life. Never heard of chocolate gravy!!
👏👍😂😂🤣🤣🤣
love you guys 💜🙏🤟
country gravy without pork sausage is perfectly acceptable, it's much better with pork sausage (american "breakfast sausage" is sage-heavy and with a lot of salt and pepper) but plain country gravy is still fantastic. Plus, it's a great "base sauce" that you could adapt to do a ton of things. Add some pre-cooked chicken breast and some cheese? Makes an amazing chicken-alfredo-type sauce. Add some chopped stewed beef with peppers? Add some roasted veggies? You can put it on anything. Baked potatoes? Hash browns? Pasta? It's a kind of "mother sauce". Just awesome.
🌴A good mole sauce for Tex-Mex, southwest, Mexican food almost always has coco in it.
🌴 Brown, white and red gravy’s are more common. Chocolate gravy is a sweet, traditional Appalachian and Ozark dish made from a mixture of cocoa powder, sugar, flour, and butter, thinned with milk. It is most commonly served warm over biscuits, but also pairs well with pancakes, waffles, and toast. It’s not very common throughout USA.
You can also use bacon fat to make the gravy. The large chunks of sausage are a relatively new thing. Mostly the gravy you'd serve with biscuits was made from the drippings from the pan you used to fry the breakfast sausage in. There would be some little bits of sausage in there, certainly, but not cut up whole links.
I grew up in northern TN and my husband grew up in northern GA. The first time I visited his mom's house, his oldest sister wanted chocolate gravy. I had never heard of it. His mom made that and also redeye gravy (made with coffee). I couldn't believe it…I had never heard of chocolate gravy. I had heard of redeye gravy, but never tasted it. I didn't like the redeye gravy and the chocolate gravy was good, but just too much for me for breakfast. I thought I had heard of everything, so it was fun to try both. *With some brands of sausage/white gravy mix, you can substitute half or all of the water with milk to make it more creamy.
When my family cooks fried chicken in a skillet, we make a roux with the drippings left in the skillet from frying the chicken along with the crispy pieces from the chicken coating left in the drippings. Then when the roux is ready, just add milk. Season with salt and plenty of black pepper and you have chicken white gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes with your fried chicken.
The gravy mix has powdered milk in it that is reconstituted when you add the water.
Recky, can you whisk with both hands at the same time?
Use the pepper gravy as a dip for fried chicken strips or chicken nuggets.
Carol, try not to hit him too hard. 🤣
Hey all Enablers: Freeze -dried Breakfast Sausage is available 😉😉Just sayin' 😉
