Ate at Oriole a few weeks ago and just now getting to posting about it. I saw someone else post a pretty negative review the other day, but I had an overall great experience.

The Fois Gras is one of my favorite dishes I’v ever had at a Michelin restaurant. It tasted like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and was simply incredible.

Also really enjoyed the infladita and turbot.

I did feel like some of the middle courses were a little messy. The soup was not very well presented and was my least favorite dish overall.

The capellini was very good, but I thought its presentation left a lot to be desired. The Lamb and wagyu were great, though I tend not to judge restaurants on their savory courses because they all seem pretty similar to me.

By time the deserts came around I was pretty tipsy and forgot to take pictures, but I really enjoyed the golden milk course.

Overall the food was very good as was the experience. Beverage pairings were strong, and they also had some house made virgin spirits that were quite good, which felt unique to me as I’ve not seen that elsewhere. Might make Oriole a go to spot for folks who don’t want to drink alcohol but still want to enjoy a beverage pairings that enhances the food in a big way.

If you’re in Chicago and have to pick a place, I’d personally rate Smyth ahead of Oriole and honestly Alinea as well simply for the experience Alinea provides. But wouldn’t argue with anyone who places Oriole at the top.

Thank you for the review, appreciate the perspective. What I’d most like is to see folks compare Oriole to Ever…

At any rate, quite curious about the virgin spirits. Not something I’ve seen a lot of.
