50th Birthday Star Trek Cake

We threw a friend a surprise 50th birthday last weekend. We share a deep love for Star Trek and set that as the theme. I was tasked with making a red velvet cake, which I baked the night before. That night in bed I realized that I totally forgot to purchase a cake topper… panic set in. The next morning I scoured the internet for ideas. I just happened to have the com badge and pips sitting in a box. Made a mad dash to the store for food coloring and my husband tried his hand at decorating. I was blown away by how awesome it came out!
