This cake is supposed to have a ring of white around the middle and instead it came out all kinds of messed up. And in some spots you can barely see the white. How would I properly execute this? Don’t mind me, I’m a bit stupid.

A little bit of practice… less pink than you’d think. I don’t have any good advice but that’s a lovely pink.

What tools are you using, and how have you currently been applying the frosting to your cake? When I want stripes or ombré on the side of a cake, as opposed to a solid color, I like to pipe the frosting onto the side of the cake so that I can put my colors exactly where I want them. Then I use a large flat scraper to smooth the sides out.

This doesn’t help you with this specific cake unless you scrape the icing and redo it, but start much higher than you need to, then work your way down until you’ve got the right amount of white left. Don’t start too far away or you’ll get a lot of spread.

Took me a good 4-6 months of daily use at a full time job to get the hang of using an airbrush to get the results I wanted. And pink is the worst offender, it stains EVERYTHING with the tiniest amount.

Keep practicing and you’ve got this.

Use an open coupler in a piping bag for each color, then apply the icings stripe by stripe from bottom to top so the icing is an even layer before smoothing (Using a scraper rather than a spatula will yield the best results) This will stop it from becoming muddy as you smooth it out 🙂

YouTube is your best friend! There are plenty of videos for beginner decorators that don’t use fancy tools.
In this case, you can’t “layer” icing colors and then scrape, because you’re scraping off the layer you’ve just put on top.
You need to do the stripe directly in between the pink, not on top 🙂
