I was moving the rack and accidentally hit the sensor. The upper black shell broke and fell off. Do I need to replace it?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

I broke mine the same way you did three years ago. People on here said to contact customer support “they are really good and they will send you out a new piece”. I meant to but never did. It works just fine. Keeps temp. So contact customer support and replace or keep cooking.

Mine has been like that for probably 4 years and still works

It doesn’t effect anything and it’s honestly not worth replacing because it’s so easy to strip off again

That black shell is mainly there to protect the actual sensor and help with accurate temp readings. If the sensor inside is still intact and the grill seems to read temps correctly, you should be able to use it for the short term, but there’s a chance it might start reading wonky or fail entirely over time, especially if any moisture or grease gets in there.

    Have you tested it?

  6. You can’t even see mine anymore and it still works.

That’s just a cap. Many here have lost theirs.

  8. Would it hurt it to wrap foil around it? Would it help?

  9. Just the ceramic tip. Under that you’ll see a solder ball at the end of the wires. That’s what takes the temp.

I’d be surprised if anyone still had the ceramic after a year of use. It breaks pretty easily.

  10. Same thing here. Knocked it off during the first cleaning.

My OCD would force me to replace it ASAP but many will disagree. I’d fear temperature abnormalities.

Mines like that too, I was worried at first. Tested it and brought out a regular probe everything was accurate. Just remember every time to be mindful how fast you move that bottom rack.

i went through and replaced mine. it should be easy but one of my screws was over installed then i messed up, stripped it, had to get a speed out bit to get it out. what should have been a 10-15 minutes job turned into about an hour with a run to home depot. only for the replacement to do the same thing 3 months later. so if it aint broke dont fix it.

Scrubbed mine too hard one day and it also looks like this but still reads accurately.

The cap will come off in time. Mine’s been off for a while and everything is good.

That cap is super brittle after 2 or 3 cooks. Will not affect anything being “broken”
