Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, officials said.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — An overnight fire in Marshalltown displaced a family, the Marshalltown Fire Department said Monday.

According to a release, fire crews arrived to an apartment building at the 1700 block of South 7th Avenue a bit after 12:30 a.m. Monday. On arrival, they found a fire in one of the ground-level apartments in the three-story building.

Occupants of the building evacuated. Two people living inside the building were treated for minor injuries by EMS and released at the scene.

Crews brought the fire under control within the unit and were able to contain it to that apartment. The building itself was ventilated and all other occupants were able to go back inside.

The family living inside the apartment where the fire started has been displaced. The American Red Cross is providing resources.

During the investigation, crews found the cause of the fire to be a stove-top cooking fire. The fire extended up into the ceiling for the apartment.

Marshalltown firefighters were on the scene for approximately 2.5 hours.
