bahahahaha if she wants a bottle of lemon extract Walmart has screwed up my food order enough times I now have 7 bottles of it!!! I wanted ORANGE FFS!

Poor dear. That would be a wonderful gift for the upcoming holiday.

  3. Make her some homemade lemon extract, Im pretty sure you just need to get a jar of everclear and whatever you want to extract for flavor, there may be more steps though so don’t quote me on that.

There’s only about 12tsp total in there used “over 40 years.” So either she used very little (where most recipes call for none), didn’t make them often, or forgot to add it a lot of the time. 😅

Penzey’s has it (obviously their brand, but an excellent choice)

That bottle has a safety seal neck and a plastic lid. It’s nowhere close to 40 years old. She probably just forgot she bought it at the grocery store.

I wonder if the new stuff is as good as that old bottle. Speaking of lemons i need more lime squeezy juice stuff

Online, you might find some cold pressed citrus oils. Might be an upgrade!

King Arthur Flour sells some very lovely citrus extracts, she might like one! but also…don’t fix what isn’t broken haha.

    Long may she bake!

I’m slowly cleaning out my parents’ house: mom died last year; dad is still with us. Just checked, we have an earlier vintage bottle of the same stuff. It might contain 1/8 tsp. Gah.

McCormick also owns Club House and they make Lemon Extract? Idk if they make it like they used to but the same (theoretical) product exists from the same brand and can usually be purchased in the baking aisle of a supermarket

The lemons this was made from are extinct. The last ones were eaten by pygmy mammoths on Wrangel Island. The new stuff just doesn’t hit the same way.

I just bought some of this brand in strawberry and orange. I’m making French meringues!

I have a bottle my grandma left me from 2004 if she wants it

  15. TheNewYellowZealot

It took her 40 years to go through that bottle?!

  16. I’ve got all the McCormick extracts! Lemon, orange, maple, rum, almond and of course vanilla (my homemade extract still steeping).

I’m stunned that one bottle lasted that long and still had any flavor at all.

Reminds me of my mother and being home from school vacation in LA. I can see her now in the yellow kitchen we had on her long curly corded yellow wall telephone that matched. Her fingers twisting the cord, the light from the sun beaming through the kitchen windows dancing on her Tupperware of assorted colors that were left on the counter by the sink. Warm smells of sweet delectables floating in the air surrounding me and enticing my senses to a peculiar state of hunger.

Sometimes I miss being a child.

McCormick Culinary 16oz Pure Lemon Extract at webresturantstore.com is 83% alcohol compared to the 84% on this bottle. And ingredient order is the same.

It’s less than $20 and would make her month. DM me if you need help paying for it, OP

Did that single bottle actually last her 40 years? Was she making a batch once every four years?

I’m genuinely curious with things like **enshitification**… if the water content, oil of lemon quality are different from 40 years ago.
