I ordered this custom cake, do you think it is worth 135? I included the reference pic of what I wanted

I think it looks pretty nice, but comparing to the reference photo i would personally not pay $135. there are many inconsistent details between your reference and the product, i’m not sure if you gave them the ok to make changes to the design, but it is surely not the same cake as what you wanted. a big no no for me is a printed lettering rather than piping, i think it looks rushed and wonky. sorry if these criticisms seem harsh, but i would not be happy or accepting the cake if that’s what i went to pickup when i have a reference design.
Fuzzy_Welcome8348
I’d pay 135 for the second one

Not even similar frosting has weird texture

I don’t think any cake is worth $135 but I definitely don’t think that cake is worth $135.
PlentyCow8258
I guess the pricing depends on your area but they didn’t even get the heart shape right.
ArtsyRabb1t
Looks like a grocery store cake
ceciem2100
That’s not even close to the reference picture, I’m sorry, it’s really not.
mlledufarge
Whoever you ordered this from needs to practice their piping a lot more, as well as be better at placing the text! Looking at the bottom piping, it doesn’t even match up as the same style. The skill does not match the price.

Hell naw……….
HmmDoesItMakeSense
No. They plopped on symmetrically placed flowers and a clump. There is no finesse here.
Sufficient-Draw-7380
Neither are worth that price
Alaska1111
No not compared to the reference photo

So I own a bakery. We would charge about $75 for this cake. Probably would be a bit more in the USA, though our cost of living here is about equivalent to Dallas, TX. So it would depend on where you are located. I know for a fact ingredients are cheaper in the USA, but labor is more. However, given what you asked for, I would have absolutely had to confirm a flower change. When someone submits a custom request like this every color and detail has to be agreed to in writing (Text/email/etc).
flamingo_cake
it looks cheap and lazy. they didn’t even pipe on the words like the original picture. they cheaped out in every single possible way. i wouldn’t pay $20 for this. refuse to pick it up and get your money back.
alanlight
The piping is quite sloppy and amateurish. I don’t think a professional cake at any price should look like this.
EndOfTheCourt
Dont let this ruin a day. We only get so many. You can get more dollars and you also dont have buy another cake from there. Unless it tastes good.
whereugetcottoncandy
The second one has babies breath flowers on it. They are poisonous

no u got completely scammed

Oh I got confused I thought the first was the reference pic. Did they airbrush that on??? CHEEEAAAP

Personally I would never pay $13 a slice for a cake, but if that’s what you agreed to pay for it then that’s what it is worth. They don’t charge $135 unless someone is willing to pay $135.
marbeep
Even the letter decals she used are misshapen and applied incorrectly – this is absolutely not worth $135.
Jaded_Ingenuity_8894
I’m a baker and this looks to be about a 6-8 in cake. Seeing as though it looks like she used fake flowers & stickers for the deco and the piping (in the most respectful way) looks incredibly amateur I would not pay $135. I charge anywhere from $100-$160 for my custom cakes of this size but I am also classically trained and went to pastry school and my cakes generally will look exactly like the pictures sent to me. She’s definitely overcharging for her skill level.
jstwildbeat
No. I would get a refund on the deposit. It looks so different from the reference picture. Your cake looks like it was frosted with Reddi Whip straight from the can and not with buttercream. The other piping details are sloppy as well. The flowers should be smaller/delicate and be in pastel. The text was printed and not even hand-piped!
Jellykatie
I’m sorry it’s so messy please get a refund 😭😭😭
Internal_Feedback_51
Oh my goodness. The cake is gorgeous but 135?????No absolutely not. Not certain what part of the country you live in but I m sure Publix can do it for half the price and their bakery can’t be beat taste wise or appearance!
FLAgirl4ever407
Come on,besides the flowers being totally different, the icing isn’t even placed the same.its not worth $135…it’s still very pretty but it does not look like the pic.If you like it,tell her you’ll pay less because it isn’t up to par.If you don’t like it,don’t bury it at all…it’s not like it costed her $135 to make…
MacPho13
This is so not the cake you ordered. Not worth $135.
TBH, it looks like she made a heart shaped cake with sunflowers, and printed lettering, for a different customer. Then the sunflower cake customer didn’t pick up their cake. So instead of wasting the decorations on the cake, she added the purple and white flowers to pass it off as your cake.
I hate to say it, but… you probably could go to a certain big box store and get one of their vintage heart cakes with, “Happy Birthday Mom” on it in lilac frosting. Then grab a bouquet of flowers and food safely add some to the cake. For like $40
I’m big on supporting small bakers and cake decorators. I’m not big on paying a premium for a cake I did not order.
After she fixes the cake, have her send you a photo of the cake. If she doesn’t take those damn fake sunflowers off the cake, AND if it does not look like your reference picture, AND if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Especially not for $135!
I know it can be hard advocating for ourselves, but you’re not being mean. She’s the one who did not provide what you ordered. If she had any issues fulfilling your order, she should have told you.
If she needed to make substitutions, she should have contacted you and gotten your consent to make changes. This is on her. Not you.
Your reference photo is pretty simple to accomplish. Even though the shape is wonky, and the piping is a little messy, all she really had to do was add the same or similar colored flowers to it, add some little bows from Amazon, and hand pipe your message on the cake. Had she done that, you would not be on here right now.

Seems obscene, hope it tastes better than it looks. 😵💫

No, I’m sorry. That is not sell-to-other-people level of skill. That is friends-and-family-ask-you-to-make-cakes-for-their-celebrations level of skill. We all start somewhere and improve with practice, no shame in that, but people who are asking others to pay them need to know their own limitations.
TeriofTerror
Look, I’m no artist.
But the letters are printed, the piping is “meh,” and anyone can stick fresh flowers on a cake.
michiganstrange
She lied about her skill level and or her capability to perform the task you verbally contracted her to perform, don’t pay.
bear14910
The baker clearly doesn’t feel comfortable writing on the cake like the inspo, but then they did a terrible job of applying the printed script. The cake isn’t heart-shaped. The flowers are a mess and I’m concerned about food safety for the flowers on both cakes tbh. There’s no ribbons which is a prominent feature of the inspo design. Idk if you got any special fillings or anything, but there’s really not much that could make me think this cake is worth that price.
I know the baker told you she uses a whipped icing and not buttercream, and that you agreed to that- but the baker should know that she cannot pipe whipped icing the same way to get the detail of the inspo cake. Icing choice wasn’t right for the design and that is on the baker, not you.
I’m so terribly conflict-avoidant that I’d probably just take the cake, but even I would heavily consider asking if I could pay the baker less ($75? $100 is pushing it). And I would not tip like I normally would. 😭 I’m sorry you’re so disappointed. You have every right to be. I wouldn’t blame you one bit for not even picking it up
Fabulous-One8493
I used to work at a local hometown bakery and the most we would have charged for the first cake is about $50. Granted this was ten years ago, but no way would I pay $135 unless the insides of the cake are made with something special and multiple layers, flavors, colors, etc.. and unless you asked for sunflowers, this cake is nothing like what you asked for. The piping on the sides is not nearly as detailed as the requested photo. The printing isn’t even icing, is it? Whoever is charging $135 is really overpricing their “precious time” in my opinion.
OkCan5345
She shouldn’t have said she could make it if she wasn’t able to make it.
Bigbluff98
It LOOKS like $75 but hopefully it TASTES like $135.
clueless-albatross
The lettering on top is pretty bad, if they can’t neatly pipe something as simple as happy birthday mom and the rest looks fairly sloppy I wouldn’t pay that much for it. Maybe if the cake itself tasted incredible I’d forgive it but it’s definitely nothing like the second one
Betterthanbefore5
Walmart makes them for 24.99.
JayJayJenni
It doesn’t look anything like the reference. It doesn’t even really look like it was done by a professional
