My agency had a delivery of assorted baked goods today as a “random act of kindness” (I work for an EMS organization), and this mystery treat was included. I’m desperate to find out what it is, because it’s one of the best things I’ve ever tasted.
– it’s not super sweet, main taste is buttery. I’m guessing 50% of whatever it takes to make involves butter (sort of joking, sort of not)
– the top layer is almost textured like the curd of a lemon bar, but without the lemon
– the bottom layer is almost reminiscent of a graham cracker crust for a cheesecake, especially at the very bottom
– the “cake-y” layer is more reminiscent of a brownie/cookie than it is cake, as in it isn’t airy and fluffy, more dense
I’m happy to answer any questions to help me get to the source or a recipe so I can make it at home. It almost has cheesecake vibes with all the proportions wrong? I have no idea how else to describe it.

This looks like “Ooey Gooey Butter Cake” to me.
Definitely a gooey butter cake! This recipe is similar to the one I use: [https://www.pauladeen.com/recipe/gooey-butter-cake-recipe/](https://www.pauladeen.com/recipe/gooey-butter-cake-recipe/)
Looks like chess pie
Gooey butter cake. The real deal involves a yeasted dough base, but there are lots of easy versions using cake mix.
Thank you to everyone who commented! After taking a look, I think everyone who said Gooey Butter Cake is correct. Thank you all so much! Can’t wait to start making it for everyone I know and sharing the joy!
Gooey Butter Cake, super common around St Louis! You can make it yourself at home or order online from a lot of places
Looks like the Neiman Marcus Cake to me
It’s definitely butter cake. If the bottom crust tastes or smells of yeast, it’s going to be Philadelphia/German style (butterkuchen, which has a yeast dough, like a sweet bread, base) vs Midwestern style which uses a yellow cake/cake-mix base. I grew up with the 1st version, in both Philly and Baltimore
Definitely butter cake!
Gooey butter cake!! I add extra vanilla to mine! I do the whole store bought cake mix and cream cheese recipe!
Yep agreed with others. Ooey gooey butter cake!
Neiman Marcus Cake!
St. Louis delicacy!!! Gooey butter cake! Just don’t look at the nutritional facts 🤣
Yeah I was going to say gooey butter cake too. I have a recipe if you want it, but mine is definitely sweet
Down in Louisiana, we call that Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. It’s yummy!
When I saw this title, I so dreaded that your neighbour, Math, gifted you this treat and when you asked for the recipe she said no and flounced off.
Like everyone has commented, looks like Gooey Butter Cake. Just as an fyi, you can also make gooey butter cookies that have cake mix and cream cheese that you make into balls and you dip in powdered sugar. Soooo good!
Come to Saint Louis 🙂
I don’t know, but I’ll take 20 to start! Looks yummy.
It looks like ooey gooey bars
Aka Texas Goldbars
Woooooow this brings back memories. I instantly knew what it was, my mouth watered.
I thought this was Chess Cake.
[THIS](https://smittenkitchen.com/2010/03/st-louis-gooey-butter-cake/) is my faaaaaavorite Gooey Butter Cake recipe. It’s a bit more complicated than the box cake recipes since it requires a yeasted cake dough, but it’s SO good!!
Midwesterner here. That’s Gooey Butter Cake.
Respectfully I would f*** that cake upppp 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
First Chinese Chews and now ooey gooey butter cake!
Came to answer but I see everyone has already said it. Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.
Loom up “Neiman Marcus cake,” a sophisticated ooey gooey butter cake.
When did we start putting “ooey” in front of gooey butter cake?!? 🤣🤣🤣
