When I was a vegetarian I ate this same sandwich but with cheeses on it also. It was my go to when my family got hoagies.

This was my grandmother’s favourite sandwich (a Great Depression meal, I gather). I made it out of curiosity one day, used mayo and honey dijon instead of butter and it slapped. If you can get your hands on a walla walla it’s even better.

My grandmother used to do that but she’d sauté the chopped onions and put it on rye bread really good
