I love this lady’s show, I think because she reminds me of my grandmother

I’ve learnt more from her about cooking than anyone – not just Korean food and ingredients, but basic kitchen and knife skills too.

Logan steals all her recipes and makes videos pretending he came up with it.

Maangchi is the OG, I use a lot of her recipes and point people towards her channel if they’re trying to learn to cook Korean food for the first time

Maangchi is probably responsible for more non-Koreans getting into cooking Korean cuisine (as opposed to just eating it) than any other person alive.

When I was in high school I would watch her videos all the time I love her

  6. Just wanted to add that Maangchi’s husband died recently. He was the one behind the camera and edited all her videos. She wrote in her newsletter that she’s trying really hard to do everything herself now, but her videos may come out more sporadically as she learns how to record and edit. I think this is a good time to give her support by watching her videos and commenting on her site.

I had a really severe eating disorder and her channel posted the only “safe” recipes for me – lots of pickled vegetables and tofu. I failed a lot of eating disorder treatment programs prior to finding her channel. I’m fully a white girl but I’ve gotten my health back thanks to her. I’ve since branched out to learning to cook different cuisines since recovery and grown a lot, but her recipes remain like a kind of “safe”, “home”, kind of place for me where even if I’m feeling like I don’t “deserve” food – I know that I can make my own versions of her recipes and not hate myself. Love Maangchi so much.

edit: and I guess I don’t care about Logan because I’m a generation older than him. as for him “stealing her recipes” – Maangchi posts traditional grandmother style Korean recipes. Logan generally posts just tasteless versions of modern Korean recipes catered toward the American palate, shit like he has a severe aversion to anchovies. I’m sure that Logan first learned from Maangchi but it should be noted that he’s not actually “stealing” them, he’s actively making it worse lol. I didn’t realize how racist people’s algos were until this whole thing with Logan came out and apparently a lot of people’s first intro to Korean food was thru him lol. Honestly a small amount of self-reflection is needed there – these algorithms are catered to the user.

Maangchi’s recipes never miss. Never been disappointed after trying one out. Her videos are also very entertaining on their own. She tells so many heartwarming stories from her personal life that all revolve around her love of cooking and food

  9. I don’t know what that is, but I want to eat it.

  10. Korean wife and I originally were exclusive to [Korean Bapsang](https://www.koreanbapsang.com) but lately we’ve been using recipes from Maangchi and they are equally as awesome. Support both of these sites and pass the word along to everyone.

so upset to hear about the loss of her husband. is there any way to support her beyond engaging with her channel?

Her kimchi and kimchi fried rice recipes are my go to!

I really like this lady! Im a middle aged white guy and she has made Korean food accessible to me.

Maangchi is the best. Her Dak Juk (chicken congee) warms my soul. Rather see her videos than that seonkyoung longest who decided to flip flop between being a vegan and deleting/archiving all her old meat recipes previously despite people begging her to leave them up.

I am a white person who loves to learn about Korean food. She has been incredibly helpful in not only introducing me to new dishes, but just basic kitchen skills as well! I love her content so so much.
