I dont know if people see the meat church brand as overrated or not but over the past few months ive tried their lineup and I cant think of a more consistent brand. Pretty expensive though…

Meat church is really good, but my personal favorites are anything from Malcom reed or heath riles. Always super consistent and super tasty.

I would highly recommend the Memphis Rub recipe by Steven Raichlen, it is my go-to for ribs and you can make a shitload for a fraction of the MC cost
Phill_is_Legend
I’m a fan of most of their rubs. I wouldn’t call a $10 bottle “pretty expensive” but 🤷
-no_aura-
I got gifted a few, they’re OK. Blanco is the only one I’d buy again bc I don’t have butter flavor on hand. Making bbq rubs isn’t hard and everything else they offer is cheaper to make yourself.
Unwelcomed_Opinion
I feel like the minority here but I find them to be overrated.
Not saying they suck and you could definitely do worse, but I finally bought a mixed pack of like 6 of them after traditionally making my own rubs but I would see recipes posted using those rubs and wanted to at least get a sense of flavor profile and I have been largely underwhelmed.
PacoMahogany
I’m working through their 8 seasoing variety pack (have opened 5/6). They’re not bad by any means, but so far the only one I’d buy again is the VooDoo and I don’t like the fajita.
blind_stone
Used to be around $9 here but now it’s creeping up to $12 a bottle.

Personally a fan I know it’s cheaper and can be better to make your own rub but they are convenient and I enjoy the flavor
mal_wash_jayne
Holy gospel and honey hog are always in my spice cabinet. Along with Killer hogs AP.

I swear by Met Church and a local to STL brand called Code 3 Spices. Never an issue of quality with Meat Church, Matt Pittman makes great YT videos too
Cloaked42m
I’m not a huge fan. It’s good, but not great.
SilverKnightOfMagic
I find a lot of the popular brands are more expensive and are tasty.
I’ve tried and have come pretty close to some of the mixes. I don’t really follow any recipes just the ingredients list and ratios are based off the flavour profiles and color of the rubs.
Uncle_Burney
I have a real hard time paying those kinds of prices for seasonings, and tend to whip up my own stuff. I’m sure all that stuff is tasty, but the margins have got to be juicy juicy on what’s basically salt+
AngryTrunkMonkey
The only one of his I can’t stand is his Holy Cow. The texture is fucked up. I tried it once and tossed it out. I really like the rest of his stuff though. His Blanco goes well with grilled (or otherwise) veggies. Holy Voodoo is great on wings for the extra kick. As for price, it’s comparable to anything else out there. I buy his and other’s rubs at Ace Hardware. And of course, Killer Hog’s The BBQ Rub reigns supreme.

It’s Reddit. People want you to go to the ocean, collect the water, evaporate it and make your own salt. Then for every other ingredient like we care that much. I use them and others and food taste fine. If I had enough time to grow my own peppers every time I wanted a damn rib I wouldn’t cook.
Alternative_Dot_9640
Holy Gospel is great when I don’t feel like putting my own rub together, and their bird baptism brine is an absolute game changer for whole chicken/turkey!
BeNiceMudd
I like the Voodoo for pulled pork and smoked salmon. I am a high blood pressure bbq dude and I have found the Spiceology brand to be really great and low sodium. The honey habanero is my favorite i think. I know im not the only one in here lol
BigSnake180
voodoo!
Global_Trust_4398
Agree, I love the brand but not the prices. I usually rotate between Killer Hogs, Meat Church and Heath Riles depending on what I can find on sale.
FSUNoles01
So OP… what have you got against the incredible Kevin Bacon, I mean he literally has the best smoked meat in his name?!?
AOneArmedHobo
Oakridge BBQ was the best until COVID 😢
Juunlar
Their hot honey rub is worth the price imo
NotBatman81
Individual spices are always consistent guys….

I like a bunch of their stuff … I have never done a “line up the top 10 rubs showdown” but I’ve used them and I like them. Matt is also my got for looking on how to approach a cook .. esp for first time. I followed his turkey the first time I did one and my family raved .. so I at least see what he does whenever I do a “first time” cook.

Yea meat church honey hog is my go to for ribs and pork butt.
Holy voodoo is absolutely slapping on chicken.
The gospel and the all purpose are great on brisket.
So yea I agree totally, for the consistency and availability at least where I’m at, it’s an easy choice.
zeus1784
I hate paying for it but any quality seasoning is not going to be inexpensive . Meats expensive I want to enjoy my cooks .
spinrut
there’s a few knock off recipes running around if you’re worried about cost
Additional_Wash9786
Haven’t branched out much from Kinders lineup mostly because my local Costco has em often if not year round. I haven’t been disappointed with any of their offerings personally and I’ll continue to buy and try all their flavors. It’s fun branching out but yes they all come at a price. I just wish more stores would carry more varieties like meat church and killer hogs.
Renegade__2019
Holy cow and holy gospel rubs are very good, I can do without the rest
wiltznucs
Recently tried their Texas Sugar on some chicken halves. Turned out spectacular. Get lots of use out of Voodoo and Blanco too.
Jumpy-Ad4652
Meat church what? The prices are right on par with other brands. The sauce is pricey but rubs and pellets are about the same. I just like his videos and how he doesn’t push his brand on anyone. Use what you like
Pitman907
I have tried a couple meat church spicemix like the holy cow and the gospel for brisket. THey are ok. I didn’t use it again. Did you guys like these 2 for your brisket? Maybe I’m missing something the way I applied it. Thoughts?
SuspiciousGarlic7701
MC honey hog hot is second to none
chargers949
They need a no salt or low salt brand. It is insanely salty but also i love to make it fucking rain seasoning on mine.
