Curious to know the community's thoughts on grill marks, I dunno for me they always give an old school steak house vibe.

Look nice, but generally frowned upon here. Better to get a nice even maillard brown.

But this does look better than most I see here. Would smash.

don’t care for them, too bitter, or not enough general crust

Grill marks are a great way to avoid getting a good sear on the majority of your steak

This looks spectacular and yummy 🤤 Great job!

I’m sorry, but I think it looks brilliant and I would love to have that meal!

Looks like a cartoon steak in the best possible way

I think it looks cool, but texturally, this is bad for the crustmaxxing

If I’m cooking on my propane Weber, I usually go for grill marks, but it’s admittedly an inferior method. Cast iron produces a superior sear and better flavor in general imho – I’ve been doing flame cooked steaks on cast iron in my gozney pizza oven lately and they’re the best I’ve ever made.

Look cool but you want the entire steak to have that sear, not just the cross hatch pattern, either a really hot cast iron or blowtorch does the trick

Looks great and nice finish throughout with no gray inside.

Steak looks delicious. Grill marks wouldn’t sway me one way or the other as “better”. Unless it was a lawn competition.

I like to finish my steaks over charcoal with a torch as well. I get that hint of charcoal flavor but a super quick and even sear due to the torch. So for me, it is a no to the grill marks, but if you like them, then more power to you.

    Steak looks great regardless.

A steak on a grill is just as good as a pan steak. The pan gets you a better crust and the grill gives you that awesome Smokey flavor.

Hmm let’s see. Diamonds, chain link, Weber, briquette, um… propane. That’s about all I can think of at the moment.
