At Costco today, I discovered they are now selling a brand of tallow, two 14.1 oz jars for $18. I know some readers love to use it cooking their steaks.
Your mileage may vary, as it is with Costco availability; I’m in the Portland, Oregon area. It was next to the jarred ghee, which makes sense.

I’ve been using this to cook all my steaks over the last year and it works great. Never used tallow before I picked up these myself but they’ve been working great
Look at ingredients, Chicago beef tallow ships nation wide, best Tallow going!!
Does grass fed tallow have a different taste?
The company selling one jar online for the same price as Costco sells two jars.
Huh. They sell lots of other tallows/lards: Wagyu, bison, duck, goose, chicken, turkey, pig, wild boar, elk, and lamb.
I cut the fat cap off of my meat and make my own for free
I never realized the “The world needs a fattiude adjustment” on my jar before.
A lot of places sell it, I thought. I’ve been buying mine on Amazon. I don’t use it when cooking steaks but it works wonderfully with cooking brisket.
Not a huge fan of this. Has a super gamey taste that overpowers whatever I’m cooking
Add a tablespoon to cookie mix. Your head will explode!!!!
Nice. Nothing beats beef fat fries, except maybe duck fat fries, or maybe a nice mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich…
However, it is a little pricey. ShopRite sells cheaper for example.
I make my own, sometimes from Costco off-cuts like picanha, although Kirkland doesn’t leave too much excess on (you need to leave a decent amount on), so I make most of mine from offcuts of whole sirloin (20+ lbs) when I break them down (purchased from restaurant wholesalers).
I’ve asked a few butchers for fat or offcuts, but they all smile and shake their heads.
Tallow is the way to go purely from a flavour perspective. I know that any cooking oil will add flavour but tallow compliments the beef more than any oil I’ve used. Heck I use beef tallow when cooking lamb and pork as well.
Im seriously considering changing from BJs to Costco. Only problem is Costco is a little farther from me than Bjs.
So does dollartree for $1.50
Snake River sells American wagyu tallow and it’s the best there is. I prefer it over the Miyazaki a5 tallow from crowd cow
Yup. Tallow and ghee combo when browning beef works great. Wife noticed the improved flavor.
