I get nice nigiri like that from our local Asian grocery and drizzle some Kewpie and torch it at home.

I think grocery store sushi gets too much hate. If we’re talking walmart, sure. My local grocery store literally gets the whole giant w/e 50-100 LB tuna and breaks it down it right there behind the counter.
The fish can’t get much fresher than that.

I don’t usually worry about the fish, just the rice. The rice sucks at every grocery store.

I’ve got a kimchi mart right by me and it can be hit or miss with the sushi, I think it depends on who’s making it. Sometimes we’ll pick up a couple trays while we’re shopping and it’s usually decent, but the last time the salmon was incredibly fishy and weird.
That said, it’s where I buy my hamachi kama. $24.99 for 4 pieces is a pretty good price and it’s always solid.

I feel like it’s less surprising if it’s a place called “Kimchi Mart” rather than like Walmart or cost plus 😂

Those looks like big ass pieces of salmon nigiri, price good to me, how does it taste?

That label is amazing. “May contain raw fish”… 😂

The fish looks amazing…..the main problem with ‘grocery’ store sushi is the rice temperature and texture. Doesn’t matter who good the fish is when the rice is hard or cold. I’d almost rather mid fish with perfect rice, than the freshest rice with bad rice. There’s a reason, there’s such a premium put on rice preparation in Japan.
