I don't know anything about big green eggs except that they're expensive so I grabbed my dolly and wheeled it to it's new home. Plenty of rust to clean but whatever. It's about 16-18 inches wide. Couple questions after a quick google. Is it missing a lot? What model/how old is it? Thanks in advance!

I really gotta move to a neighborhood where people are throwing away eggs.

You’re missing a few things. You’ll want to replace the internals – fire box and fire ring. New gaskets. If you want to smoke things on it you’ll need a conveggtor. You’ll want something to put it in, the nest is the cheaper option but there are a lot of other options. After you do all that, I’d light a hot fire because it looks like it hasn’t been used in a while.

CptRon has a ton of great youtube videos if you want to learn how to use it well without a bunch of trial and error, but that’s half the fun.

You are about to journey on a dark path that will lead you to lots of protein. Be prepared.

Looks like a Large. You’re missing the firebox and the band and hinge system. You also need new gasket and get some touch up paint from their website to touch up the chipped off part on the dome. Don’t worry about the rust, on anything but the cooking grate, it will burn off.

Your fire ring is broken, but it will work regardless.

Firebox goes for $190, the band and hinge $190, the gasket for $35 and the touch up paint $9. So for $424 you have a completely working Big Green Egg again.

I would also recommend a conveggtor and nest. Amazon might have some more cost effective options, especially for the conveggtor/plate setter.

This Egg is probably 15-20 years old.

Damnit! Where the heck is this!? Why can’t I get lucky like this…

There are barely BGEs here, let alone enough to have them thrown away. (I’m in Canada – just outside of Calgary actually)….

NGL, if you’re not already an Egg enthusiast it may be better to just sell the various parts out 🤷🏿‍♂️

Welcome to the addiction. Start with a very small fire or leave it out in the sun for a free days since there is water inside of it. If not, lighting a hot fire will cause all that water that seeped into the ceramics to heat too quickly and may cause a crack.
