First time trying Flaccianello and it did not disappointed.

Enjoyed at The Wine Bar at Provence Marinaside in Vancouver.

Had splashes of young versions, but they're too young to enioy.

Gave this a quick decant, then enjoyed over an hour.

This had a lot more structure than I expected.

Red cherry, blueberry, plum, dried rosemary notes.

Nice acidity, color was darker than I would expect for Sangiovese.

This is still on the young side and may get even better with age.

92 points.

Jealous! One of the greatest wines of Italy, IMHO.

I had the 2006 last year and was BLOWN AWAY. The finish seems to last a lifetime. Truly one of the most memorable wines I have had to date.

  3. Jealous. I bought a bottle of 2010 last year through TW Concierge that ended up being completely oxidated and undrinkable.

fontodi is such an incredible estate. the flaccianello has this way of being bold and structured but still keeping that sangiovese elegance which is honestly hard to pull off with 100% sangiovese. interesting you got dried rosemary, i usually pick up more of a dried herb and tobacco thing on the older vintages but 2013 might still be a bit young for that. the darker color makes sense too since the panzano conca d’oro vineyards sit at pretty ideal elevation and get a ton of sun. if you ever get the chance try the vigna del sorbo chianti classico gran selezione from them, its a fraction of the price and gives you a really good sense of what fontodi does with sangiovese in a more traditional blend format. cheers from vancouver too btw, provence marinaside is a great spot

This wine is stunning. I have definitely had them too young but they are built to enjoy at any moment in its life. Sangiovese is a highly underrated grape in my opinion.
