**This is a generic reminder message under every image post**

Thank you for your picture post to r/sousvide. We want to remind everyone of Rule #5. Posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is encouraged.

If you’ve posted a picture of something you’ve prepared, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn’t really fostering any discussion which is what we’re all aiming for.

Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.

    Thank you!!

You’ll want 170 for at least 18 hours for long pig.

    Ummm….somehow this doesn’t feel safe! 🙏

  4. Water heater went out? Looks to me like water heater went in.

Joule works fine completely submerged. I like really long baths too

This is a good way to learn just how much energy is lost by not covering the vessel

Well I don’t know a good temp from experience, but i assume it would be the same a large pig, 5 hours?

A few months ago I told my bf I wish they had bathtub sous vides cause my bathwater doesn’t last as long as I want it to

Did this for months waiting on home warranty to come through, just used my container and a cup but it worked

The vacuum bagging yourself is the hard part.

Real question, is this safe? Bc I would lowkey wanna try it

I thought my guy was about to end it all…

Get an immersion water heater off Amazon. They’re safe as they go underwater and you’re less likely to dry the heating element out. Just did this last month when we had a gas leak, that required inspector to come out before getting the permit to reconnect it

I noticed the instructions for mine said like 18 qt max or something like that…..

  15. It looks like it’s not submerged and that there is water spouting from the side. AI or staged?

  16. Careless_Ad_9665

That looks similar to my blow dryer. I thought you had just decided to end it all and found it strange to post it on Reddit first. 🤣 I don’t look at the sub.

When my hot water heater broke I used my sous vide, a 5 gallon bucket, and a battery powered camping shower while I was waiting for it to be fixed.

Fill with ping pong balls to retain heat

I feel like boiling some water on the stove might be more effective. I don’t know. Maybe that’s just me.

  22. travprev

Lol. That’s going to take until tomorrow! Haha

  23. 102F for about half an hour should be perfect.

When that happened my parents would just boil water in pots and put it in a half full bathtub of cold water and it would be warm enough.
