RIP.
Met him at a wine dinner on October 1st 2008, where Le Bon Pastuer (2005, 1995) was the main star with many other of his wines.
Friendly superstar, interesting to talk to one on one and gave me good advice on the difference between Ausone and Cheval Blanc back then. I was wine-star-struck and it was the only good question I could come up with and he explained something with terroir and slopes being special.
Fascinating man!
Full lineup that evening to show the variety of wines he had made,
– Yacochuya Malbec, La Salta 2004
– Val De Flores, Malbec 2004
– Remhoogte Estate, RSA 2005
– Mariflor, Sauvignon Blanc, Mendoza 2007
– Mariflor Pinot Noir, Mendoza 2006
– Le Defi Fontenil, Fronsac 2000
– Dom Weinbach, Cuvee Laurence, Altenberg, Pinot Gris 2005 (WOTN)
– Château Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol 2005
– Château Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol 1995
– Château Fontenil, Fronsac 2005
– Aigle Noir, Remhoogte Estate, RSA 2006

If you saw Michel Rolland was a consultant on a Bdx-style blend, you could bet it was well-made.
