I’m looking at buying one of these and want opinions and feedback. I want charcoal flavour but videos on YouTube say that the master built doesn’t give charcoal flavour and the searwood is better at smoke flavour than the wood wind pro.

Use charcoal pellets

I highly recommend the Searwood. Great smoke and the build quality is just better than the Camp Chef.
The Masterbuilt has been known to have poor build quality, and you will end up using way more charcoal as fuel compared to a pellet smoker for a similar cook.

i have the woodwind pro24. you can put charcoal in the smoke box. i have had mine for over 3 years and have done it a few times, but really just to experiment with putting charcoal briquettes in first to form a base bed of coals and then add wood chunks… which worked fine, but the wood chunks work great on their own in there. that being said, i absolutely love the woodwind pro. it does a great job for a pellet. if you are wanting to grill on a pellet, then the woodwind pro is not for you. all that being said, i would think putting charcoal in the wood chunk smoking box in the woodwind would likely produce a charcoal flavor.

Woodwind Pro, I’ve had the 36 for over 2 years now and use it probably 3-4 times a week definitely the best pellet grill I’ve ever had. The smoke box is a game changer, can use wood, charcoal or both

Campchef woodwind pro is goated. Can’t be bet

Weber all the way! Best quality for the price and it’s a Weber!

Don’t have much information on the other two, but I absolutely adore my Searwood (XL). Heats up quick, holds temperature, and has a great app that works well with the included probes.

Is it the backyard guys or whatever that channel is that said searwood is more smoke? They are shills. They fill the wwp box once, while it is small and supposed to be refilled when it runs out, vs the larger aftermarket wood box they use in the searwood. If they were refilling the wwp box like you are supposed to then it would be different. It is rigged so wwp will lose.
That said, do you mean wood flavor or charcoal flavor? None give the charcoal flavor, though the masterbuilt gets closest. It (mixing in wood with charcoal) or wwp most smoke flavor, unless you add an aftermarket large wood box to basically any pellet grill. Then it matches them. Aftermarket boxes go under the drip tray so can’t be reloaded during the cook, but are large. WWP box is small but you can keep refilling it. With wwp, if you keep pumping in pellets for the first couple hours, I mean every 5-10 min, then you get a heavier smoke than the others. Not offset or barrel, but close to kettle. But if you use hickory it will get hammy. I use oak or mesquite. I’ve hung out while cooking and eaten food of many other brands and with an add on wood box they are all basically the same (unless pumping chips in wwp). Using a pellet tube ends up hammy imo on any of them.
I haven’t tried the really high end stuff like LSG and Yoder which people claim are high flavor even without a box.

Searwood is the best grill ive ever owned

While I’ve never used a masterbuilt I have had a few pelletgrilks, I still own one, I’ve chased the flavor of my offset, and my drum, and given up the chase. I still use it when it’s cold or rainy but mostly cook on offset or drum. The closest I have cone to good flavor is using the smokin pecan pellets but those are expensive, 30 + dollars a box. If flavor is your most important factor I can’t see how a pellet grill would beat a masterbuilt if I were starting my bbq journey I would have bought one over a pellet grill but I had no clue back then they existed lol.

Weber for the build quality. I’ve heard great things about it’s performance also.

The XT with a fire board upgrade. Woodwind Pro is a close second. I’ve used both, XT made the tastiest, woodwind pro had better bark (but still made some solid ass BBQ). I’d honestly put them both in a hat and draw one, can’t go wrong with either.

Weber 100% can use char pellets if you want, but the attachments you can get are very versatile. I have the Searwood xl and chose that over a WW which I’ve been wanting for years

I have a Searwood 600 and it’s a great unit. Can’t speak for the others but I highly recommend the Searwood.

I just went through this exercise in replacing my pit boss. I haven’t seen any non-influencer videos that has the Weber over the WWP. I’ve seen plenty that compares WWP to a fire stick burner. I chose WWP due to stainless steel, more even heating and optional firebox that is well regarded for extra smoke flavor if wanted. I had my ranking at WWP, recteq flagship, traeger, then Webber. The latter two only for app, but low on build quality and evenness/consistency in temperature PID readings. That was just on my 2 month research. YMMV. One thing to note on WWP, they have a supply shortage and possible discontinuation- I factored this in my decision by verifying that the fire board can work with it in the event that it craps out – but reviews have been solid with users on the forums

I was down to the Weber or the masterbuilt..
Ultimately the Weber won out for me, based on the fact that I don’t have to fuck with messy charcoal.
I have absolutely loved my searwood since I got it. It does well with hot and fast cooking, like grilling burgers and steaks, could it do better on getting those grill marks yeah… But it is a pellet grill at the end of the day so expectations have to tempered a bit. It’s also done great with low and slow. Did a 8hr smoke on some chuck roast, turn out delicious.
I also like that there’s further versatility in the accessories, i.e the rotisserie attachment and the griddle insert you can get for it.
If you do go with the searwood, do yourself a favor and at the very least go ahead and get the folding side table.
That would be my biggest gripe is that it should have come with that instead of it being a to 60 dollar accessory.
