My daughter requested a coconut cake for her 14th birthday. I have never made this kind of cake before but have eaten several throughout my life. Was kinda grateful for her choice because shredded coconut is great at hiding decorating issues and my piping leaves much to be desired lol. I am not a cake baker, I tend to focus on cookies and cupcakes. Aside from leveling the cakes better, any recommendations to make any future layer cakes better?

I like dishes that feel thoughtfully crafted. Every ingredient should contribute to the flavor. It makes the meal feel cohesive.

honestly this already looks really good, coconut was a smart choice lol

i’d just say chill the layers before stacking, makes everything way easier. and use a crumb coat first, i learned that from watching way too many baking vids

also don’t stress the piping, most people won’t even notice. i wouldn’t 😭

Oh YUM!! That looks fantastic, and I think you knocked it out of the park! Levelling is something I can’t do well (and really don’t want to bother with, honestly) so I hear you there. 🙂

But it looks delicious and I know it was a great bday cake for your daughter.
