European here.
Can’t really figure out what makes this (or any) sauce a Buffalo style.
Any inside knowledge from some connaisseur maybe?
Far from a bad sauce mind you.

Butter. Buffalo wing sauce is 50/50 Frank’s hot sauce and butter.

  2. I think traditional buffalo sauce had some butter added to it to make it more creamy and stick to chicken wings. Buffalo itself is a popular flavor, usually a tangy mild heat taste.

Edit: Also its called buffalo because it originated in Buffalo, NY. Someone correct me if im wrong

Buffalo sauce is cayenne pepper sauce made with butter. The butter adds texture and flavor that makes it good for use with chicken wings. The sauce is named after the city it was invented in, Buffalo, New York.

As a fellow European, this was the first buffalo sauce I ever had. When I opened the bottle I thought it was not that good at all, but when I finished the bottle I loved the stuff.

It’s just butter. Butter + vinegary hot sauce makes Buffalo sauce(Frank’s hot sauce, if you want to be traditional).

50% vinegary hot sauce – I think Frank’s brand is the original and it’s already fairly mild as far as that type of hot sauce can be.

50% margarine – please use butter though

Adjust percentages and brands to taste

Strange, I don’t see an oil in the ingredients that I would normally expect in a buffalo style sauce.

For me it’s simple, Butter and tangy hot sauce.

Buffalo sauce is traditionally Frank’s Red Hot and butter. This is Tabasco’s Frank’s homage, I guess. I haven’t ever had Tabasco buffalo sauce before. I have had lots and lots of Frank’s though.

Everyone keeps talking about butter, but Frank’s sauce itself tastes like wings. I attribute it to the garlic.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the question.

Q: what makes something a “Buffalo” sauce?

A: one part Buffalo sauce, one part butter

OP is not asking how to make wings. They want to know what is responsible for the flavor. And I think the answer they’re looking for is “a Tabasco-like sauce (vinegar and cayenne) with some extra flavors (garlic and Worcestershire) added”

Butter and Frank’s. That’s it. 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of Frank’s.

    Preferred Hot sauce and butter.

    Really it’s spicy, liquid, butter.

    Edit:
1:1 ratio butter to hot sauce, don’t use margarine, you need the butter fat specifically.

My quick mix uses butter, garlic powder, black pepper, and your fav hot sauce. Thinner vinegar based sauces are often the preferred ones used when making buffalo sauce (Franks, Texas Pete, Cholula).

It’s fun trying all different kinds of sauces. You will certainly lose the traditional “buffalo” flavor with some, but damn you can make some tasty wings.

The traditional original sauce is, hot sauce reduced by half so it thickens, traditionally franks. Then you take cold butter and mount the sauce, meaning slowly adding in the butter so it will cream out the sauce off the heat. Its a hot sauce beurre monté technically. I use to make one that was 3 parts crystal to one part Tabasco and a heap of cayenne that was pretty dope. I liked it better than franks
