I recently bought a brand-new and box unopened Anova Precision Cooker on FB Marketplace for $40. It is my first sous vide cooker. I then read about the sous vide cooler hack using a 13×9 pan and that a Coleman Party Stacker cooler is the best cooler to hack.

I found a 24-can Coleman Party Stacker on FB Marketplace but it appears it is too short for the Anova. Is the 24-can cooler the wrong party stacker?

Am I correct in my belief that having the Anova touching the bottom of the cooler is not good?

I guess that I could put a spacer on top of the Party Stacker lid to lift the Anova so it does not sit on the cooler bottom. But, that would have a part of the top portion of the Anova touching the lid. Am I correct in that the entire metal portion of the Anova should be in the cooler and not touching any part of the cooler?

If correct, then it is back to searching for a cooler to fit a 13×9 pan and the Anova .

Thanks

did you get the holder for the anova? you can set the depth the machine sits at with it. the bottom cap on the anova should prevent any circulation issues though, i wouldn’t be too worried.

edit: just wanted to mention there should be min/max markings on the metal part of anova, you definitely don’t need the whole thing to be in the water.

If you’re really nervous, you can put a silicone coaster or something under it, but it should be fine.

It can touch the bottom, the holes on the sides are what you don’t want to block, they are for the circulator.

The top metal can touch the lid as long as the min fill line is under the lid/water. The heater is below the min fill line so the top won’t get hot and melt the cooler if that’s what your worried about.

The heating element should be between the min fill line and the holes at the bottom. It is covered in water, and there is a “fan” to move the water. Water is a good heat sink, nothing else on the anovo will get hotter than the water.

    That’s fine.

Though I wouldn’t call putting it into a cooler a hack.

Is that a classic anova with the wheel temp adjustment? What a score, I live my old school anova.
