A stylish wine bar featuring a selection of Greek wines and spirits was set up in Düsseldorf as part of the regional administration of Central Macedonia’s presence at the PROWEIN 2026 international exhibition.
Their participation, aimed at promoting local wine production and supporting international outreach for businesses in northern Greece, marked the eighth consecutive year that Central Macedonia and its Regional Development Fund took part in PROWEIN. Five wineries and two distilleries were showcased within a specially designed wine bar, where visitors could taste selected labels and learn about their technical and quality characteristics.
The regional vineyard demonstrated “its high level and potential on one of the biggest stages of the global wine map,” according to Deputy Regional Governor for Extroversion, Banislav (Bane) Prelević, who noted that this year’s presence was particularly successful. He added that products such as PDO and PGI wines, traditional Macedonian grape varieties, single-varietal labels, modern packaging, aged spirits, and “innovative versions of retsina” attracted the interest of international professionals and visitors.
The Central Macedonia pavilion was attended by Greece’s Consul General in Düsseldorf, Chara Baltouma, and Economic and Commercial Attaché Antonia Papadopoulou. Visitors from multiple countries had the opportunity to engage directly with producers and learn about the region’s rich winemaking tradition.
PROWEIN is one of the most important global exhibitions in the wine and spirits sector, attracting professionals and executives from across international markets. According to official figures from Messe Düsseldorf, the 2026 event hosted 31,000 trade visitors from around the world and 3,400 exhibitors from 63 countries from 15 to 17 March 2026.
The exhibition was also presented by organisers as reflecting current industry challenges and trends. It introduced new exhibition spaces and strengthened its competitive and educational components, including the PROWEIN Agora platform. Among the trends highlighted were premium wines, aged spirits, and the growing “no & low alcohol” category, which was described as a leading choice among Generation Z consumers.
