I'm trying to make some simple lobster rolls, just toasted buns, butter, a little mayo, nothing fancy, but the main problem is the lobster itself.

I checked out a few local markets this week and yeah… I didn't trust it at all, it smelled weird and looked like it had been sitting there for too long. I saw Maine Lobster Now online and was a bit tempted to order from there, seems like a safer bet, but I don't want to waste my money if it turns out mediocre.

Has anyone here ordered from them and it was fresh enough to be worth the effort, or can you suggest any other online stores I can order from?

it depends on what area you are in the world. Let’s say in Quebec lobster is in May June.

My local Costco had some really nice lobster tails this past week. Sometimes I’ll swing by one of the nearby Asian grocery stores that occasionally have live lobsters.

Most restaurants serving lobster rolls outside of the American northeast are almost definitely using frozen lobster meat. You should be fine ordering some.

That being said, I do think you can make this dish with high quality frozen shrimp without losing much in terms of deliciousness. It’s *different,* but still very tasty.
