Looking for an old school sit down Mexican Restaurant. Trying to relive the days of the Red Chile in Cerritos when we used to come visit that area.
El Farolito in Placentia is a good example of what we are looking for in the style of food. Housemade chips, and flavorful red sauce – looking for a good wet chicken burrito with the melted cheese on top and beans and rice on the side.
We recently went to La Capilla in La Palma and the interior is exactly the Vibe we are looking for, but the food was not as flavorful as we would like. The beans were sorta dry and firm with little flavor. The Chimichanga was not crispy at all and the red sauce needed something.
We remember the flavorful wet chicken burritos at The Red Chile being juicy and rich, not bland and watery. The cheese had a great baked/browned flavor to it that melded with the chicken nicely. The beans were smooth and savory with good fat content and spices. The chile rellenos had a melt in your mouth texture.
We really want that comfy Old School Spanish Mission vibe, with terracotta tiles, stucco, and the cushy high back booth seats. Not looking for a new generation style place right now. Javier's Restaurant at the Irvine Spectrum has good flavor, but the vibe is different.
A friend recommended Señor Campos in La Habra. It looks good and the vibe is close.
