HUMBOLDT PARK — Segnatore, the popular Italian restaurant in Humboldt Park, is shutting its doors next month after five years in the neighborhood.
The owners of Segnatore, 1001 N. California Ave., announced the closure on social media Tuesday, saying the last day of service will be May 16. Owners did not give a reason for the closure.
“This decision was made more difficult given our appreciation of the embrace the community has given us,” the team wrote online. “We are so thankful for our neighbors, regulars, and most of all our team members that have made the last five years something truly special.”
The restaurant, which serves Italian-meets-Midwestern fare, opened in 2021 and is owned by the Orbit Group, which also owns the California Clipper. Company owners and lead chefs did not reply to a request for additional comment Tuesday afternoon.
“We are looking forward to spending this last month embracing and thanking all our customers and team members who have shown us so much love over the years, so please come visit soon!” the rest of the statement reads.
The restaurant took over the spot previously occupied by Café Marie-Jeanne, which closed in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Named after healers and folk witches of ancient Italian folklore, Segnatore is known for its house-made pasta, Tuscan roast chicken and other Italian dishes made with a Midwestern twist using locally sourced herbs and ingredients. The cocktail and wine selection has a focus on women winemakers from Italy, the group said when it opened.
Chicago hospitality design firm Siren Betty Design is behind the restaurant’s moody and feminine design, with vintage Italian artwork, 19th-century shelving and dried flowers from Courtney Howell of Biota Co-op.
The kitchen opened under former chef and partner Matt Troost, formerly of Three Aces and Charlatan. It is now run by chefs Mark Cerullo and Justin Moser, according to the restaurant website and a Culinary Agents employee list.
