Long time reader, first time poster. Got a Large BGE for free. It seemed like it’s in good shape. I have bought some accessories for it for making pizza. Should I be worried about these massive cracks? Didn’t notice until after my first pizza cook.

Included a few pics from first day of ownership. I have also replaced the gasket but wish I saw to buy that good one instead of the BGE one. I bought a conveggtor as well. Anything else you can think of let me know.

From what I’ve read a crack in the fire ring isn’t a big deal and the egg will still function normally but you can buy replacements from BGE if you’re worried about it.

Those are normal cracks and all BGEs at a certain age get some cracks.

  3. My firebox has been in three pieces for about 8 years. The ring on top is two pieces.

Old design firering, firebox crack, just ignore it untill it breaks in half.

Also did you started gentle with the heat?

It’s not a big deal. Most of us use them for years like this. It’s probably covered under warranty, especially if you have receipt. Hell, I’m using mine right now with a cracked bottom. Too sentimental to replace and I’m cheap. It’s more than 20 years old. I got my $500 Bucks out of it.

Did they like never use it? Crack probably doesn’t matter.

enjoy the egg! take care of it and it will last forever. 13 years and did one refresh of the outside hardware, all internals still perfect.
