This is a mystery my husband and I can't resolve. We have a Hagen Daz Mini every night before bed. When they come out of the freezer, sometimes the packaging is inflated like a balloon. We take them out of the box before putting them in the freezer and they are never inflated when they go in. We are really mystified.
Sorry to post here – I couldn't think of another place to post!

I am not a scientist but I’m pretty sure that when you take the frozen ice cream out of the freezer the ice/frozen bits turn into gas and expand the bag. Frozen molecules are packed tightly together and when it starts to melt it turns into gas?
Have the same problem, I know for sure the ice cream wasn’t melted when I took it out of the box and put it in the freezer. I ended up tossing a few.
Happens all the time
I think it’s related to temperature fluctuations inside your freezer, assuming you have a frost-free freezer. The temp changes are usually only like 5 to 10 degrees so it’s meant to be safe but can possibly cause some surface condensation to build up and then refreeze. If you keep them in the door or near the air vents the fluctuations might be a little more pronounced than other spots, or just generally how full or not full the freezer is or exactly how things are packed in there can also cause some variation.
