HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Volunteers have been stepping up to help feed those devastated by the recent kona low storms.
Many homes on Oahu’s North Shore remain unlivable due to flood damage, with families who lost everything unable to cook for themselves.
For about a month, Jeramiah Quenga of Jeramiah’s Island Fusion and Jerhome Estioco of Dom’s Chibog have been cooking and delivering meals to neighbors, cleanup crews and farmers — donating time and resources.
“We started out just going out to Polokai bakery area Waialua community and we just started feeding the people, there was a need over there, they asked for food because a lot of their stuff was getting spoiled,” Quenga said.
Jeramiah’s Island Fusion specializes in Chamorro California fusion food, while Dom’s Chibog makes classic Filipino dishes like sisig.
“We’re using our own finances and stuff, he showed up and he didn’t stop showing up and we’ve been doing it for almost a month straight now,” Quenga said.
What started off as passing out dozens of plate lunches, has grown to feeding hundreds each day with donations from the World Central Kitchen.
“Because of them we were able to feed quadruple four times, five times the amount,” Quenga added.
Both business owners paused their food truck operations and made disaster response their priority to help people get back on their feet.
