Restaurant Crêpes Choupette is officially bringing its authentic French cuisine to Westport, with a brand new location on 43 Church Lane.
A grand opening event will be held at Crêpes Choupette in Westport starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Breakfast items such as fresh juice, French toast and savory galettes – flat, round French pastries – will be served, as well as lunch items. A wine bar will be available for guests in the evening.
Adil Chokairy, owner of Crêpes Choupette, said that he has been working to open the restaurant’s Westport location for six months.
“I fell in love with the location as soon as I went to it,” Chokairy said.
Chokairy is originally from Paris, where he was raised eating his mother’s crêpes. As he started his career in Paris, Chokairy became a regular at a crêpe kiosk that sold crêpes identical to the ones his mother made. The crêpe kiosk is where he met his ex-wife, a Connecticut native.
“She was from Connecticut and I came to her (in 2005),” Chokairy said.
Chokairy originally worked in the banking industry, but decided to open his own business inspired by his mother’s crêpes after realizing he wasn’t passionate about his career.
Chokairy said that the restaurant “started with a bicycle in New Haven.” He would bike a cart around and cook crêpes for customers, a cart that his restaurant still uses to cater events.
“It was supposed to be a joke. I thought it was going to be just for two or three days, making crêpes on a bicycle,” he said. “I didn’t know it was going to last 10 years.”
Crêpes Choupette’s Westport location will be the restaurant’s third in Connecticut. Crêpes Choupette also has locations in New Haven and Darien, according to its website.
