Nostalgia aside, Dippin’ Dots are an objectively appealing dessert. There’s just something about those tiny little beads of ice cream in your favorite flavors that gives this classic treat a little extra oomph.
Previously, due to their super-chilled state, they were only available in retail outposts, like those found in malls and ballparks. However, thanks to an innovation in ice cream technology, you can soon stuff your freezer full of as many Dippin’ Dots as you desire.
Dippin’ Dots Head to the Freezer Aisle
Starting in April, the Kentucky-based frozen dessert purveyor will debut three fan-favorite flavors of Dippin’ Dots that will be sold in supermarkets’ ice cream cases, right alongside the pints and popsicles. Each package will include four individual cups of Dippin’ Dots in three classic flavors, including Cookies ‘n Cream, Ultimate Brownie Batter, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

It’s the first time that Dippin’ Dots in their authentic form have been sold in supermarkets. In 2024, the brand first introduced its line of sundaes, which feature Dippin’ Dots layered with sauces and toppings. The most devoted fans, who owned the right equipment for storing Dippin’ Dots, could always place bulk orders online via the company’s website.
How Did Dippin’ Dots Make This Happen?
According to the company’s press release, Dippin’ Dots figured out how to develop a version of the product that didn’t have to be stored under extremely cold temperatures. For comparison, the typical Dippin’ Dots you find at a theme park or movie theater are sold in super chillers that can keep the ice cream beads at a consistent temperature of -40°F. These new versions can be stored in your grocery store’s freezer case or home refrigerator without any impact on the quality.
Dippin’ Dots didn’t dish details on what it did to reformulate the treat, but it insists that these treats taste just like the super-chilled variety you’re used to cooling off with at the amusement park.
Where Can I Find It?
Dippin’ Dots is currently in the process of rolling out its new multi-packs at grocery retailers across the country, including Walmart. You can use the store locator on the Dippin’ Dots website to find grocers near you that already have them in the freezer case.
I’m personally most pumped about the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor, which will boast tiny bits of cookie dough alongside beads of vanilla ice cream. The Brownie Batter offering, with its chocolate-on-chocolate flavor profile, also seems particularly appealing. That said, I’m still holding out hope that the company will introduce its iconic Banana Split flavor in the coming months.
