Got some decent deals at the store this week

Classic Brats (Kroger brand) $2.99

Penne pasta ( Kroger Brand) $1.00

Pasta sauce ( Ragu brand) $1.49

Cost per portion about $0.91

Also had some onion and garlic left over

First I browned the sausages in a pan med/low to give them some color. take them out set to the side add some butter to the pan, then add in about 1 small onion worth of chopped onions cook to soften. When the onions are soft add in your garlic let it cook for a couple minutes the add your jar of sauce and any seasonings you want. Add back the brats turn to low and let them finish cooking in the sauce.

For the pasta I just boiled in water with salt and a bit of chicken bouillon, when it gets your desired texture strain and portion out into your containers. When the sausages are finished pull out and slice them and portion into the containers and add the sauce on top.

Kind of off topic but I love those disposable cardboard containers! Do you remember where you got them?

  2. Not criticizing your use of the containers, but would it not be cheaper and more efficient to have a big container of the sausage + sauce and another one of the pasta in the fridge, and just take a scoop of each into a glass container before work or whatever?

I understand the convenience factor of the individual containers but just thinking from a budget standpoint
