Cais do Sodré is one of the busiest areas in Lisbon for tourists, or for those seeking a bohemian atmosphere, with bars and other entertainment options. But what if we told you that right here there’s a small (and laid-back) wine “paradise” with a “secret garden” waiting for you?

On Rua da Boavista, the 54 São Paulo Exclusive Boutique Hotel “hides” a new space that opened its doors to the public in March. With a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere , Alma54 was designed with those in mind who seek intimate moments, accompanied by a good wine, in an enchanting garden.

Wine takes center stage

In this new speakeasy, Portuguese wine serves as the perfect starting point for broader experiences. In total, the wine list features 38 selections from across the country — from north to south, including the islands—curated by bartender Vasco Gonçalves.

To complement and make the late afternoons even more enjoyable, the menu also includes a small selection of appetizers, such as charcuterie and cheese boards . Additionally , for those who prefer, there are signature classic cocktails, reinterpreted with a Portuguese twist, notably the Negroni with Port wine and the Manhattan with Madeira.

Specialized experiences

The private garden invites you to slow down, and the relaxation experience doesn’t stop there. Inside, there’s a fireplace to face cooler days with equal comfort and a sense of escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. This atmosphere of respite invites you, precisely, to enjoy specialized experiences.

Here, you’ll find the “Wine Journeys,” tastings designed to explore the different stories and regions of Portuguese wine. Currently, two offerings stand out:

Women in Wine — which pays tribute to the contribution and prominence of female winemakers in the national market

Fortified wines — celebrating the great Portuguese classics

Each experience costs €27 per person (or €45 for two people) and includes three wines, accompanied by a platter of three Portuguese cheeses.

Music at the end of the day

To kick off the weekend with a boost of energy, at Alma54, Fridays are all about music, with DJ sets livening up the space.

And because good times invite you to linger, the hotel has a surprise: anyone who spends €300 at the bar receives, as a courtesy, an invitation to spend the night at the 54 São Paulo Exclusive Boutique Hotel.
