I’m relatively new to the BGE space and picked this up from my dad. From what I can tell, the hinge has been upgraded but I’m seeing a lot of rust on the bottom band. Is there a way to just replace that one band? Meaning can I buy just that band or do I have to buy the whole band kit that comes with the hinge too? Any links would be appreciated. This is the large version.
I thought I would ask before I go all in on restoring this egg, can’t wait to fire it up.

The bands are sold as a kit. You should do both at the same time.

Why are those not made out of stainless steel? They charge enough that this should not happen
I leave mine out in the elements so I’ve replaced this twice in 20 years. Definitely the weakest part or at least the one under the most stress.
It’s one kit for both, and they’ve changed the style at least once in that time so it’s possible the band isn’t made the same way anymore. You probably want to change them together anyway since it’s under such stress that if one went the other likely isn’t far behind.
No replace both or you’ll be either replacing the lid or purchasing one of those.
