In London’s luxurious Knightbridge district, the Italian restaurant Signor Sassi is an institution. The glamorous restaurant, which opened in 1984 near Harrod’s, draws the wealthy and the famous for classic Italian cuisine and an upbeat, energetic vibe.

Now, Signor Sassi has opened its first North American location in a most unlikely place: Hallandale Beach.

The location, in front of the Luxury Oasis development now under construction, may not draw the likes of Rihanna, the Rolling Stones, Mary J. Blige and the Foo Fighters, as its London sibling does (there are also locations in Bahrain, Egypt, Dubai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia). But CEO Daniel Alberto Rodriguez believes that the upscale restaurant will offer locals and tourists something special.

“Signor Sassi brings something entirely new, special and exciting to Hallandale Beach, and we’re confident the area has not seen anything like this,” he said. “We look forward to sharing our passion for exceptional food, warm hospitality and the unmistakable Signor Sassi atmosphere.”

Designed by the London firm Fettle, the interior aims for sophistication, with wood panels, marble tables and a bar. Signor Sassi seats 200 in its indoor dining room and offers 25 seats outside as well.

The menu is similar to the London restaurant, with popular entrees like spaghetti and lobster or the mezze maniche (short, tubular pasta) all carbonara with seasonal truffle. You’ll find a variety of pasta dishes as well as a wagyu Tomahawk with broccoletti and roasted potatoes and another favorite, fried shrimp and calamari.

Specialty cocktails make an appearance, too, like the Sassi Fashion, with Four Roses bourbon, hazelnut maple syrup and Amaro, and the Mercante, with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Sazerac rye, Carpano Antica, Campari, Amaro del Capo and aperitivo.
