Pita de’ Novo is one of our family’s favorite casual dinner spots – usually takeout, so the hardest part for me was trying a dish off the Chick o’ Fish menu instead of ordering a my usual gyro pita sandwich.

I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich which comes with beef, grilled peppers and onions, Swiss cheese and mayo. I thought it was tasty and I really loved my side of red beans and rice which tasted authentic. Other side choices are fries, green beans, and cole slaw.

I thought the Chick o’ Fish appetizers looked worth trying in the future—especially for fried food lovers. The options are fried green tomatoes, fried mushrooms, fried pickles, cheddar poppers and okra.

The Chick o’ Fish menu is full of various ways to enjoy grilled or fried chicken and tilapia and catfish. There are po-boys, platters and salads. They also have a Southern burger on the menu, as well as some kids meals.

The interior seating hasn’t changed, and all orders are taken at the same (and only) register. They told me the staff is still the same and the two companies share the kitchen but not the same fryers.

The printed menu is now two-sided, with Pita de’ Novo on one side and Chick o’ Fish on the other.

You can still get all your Mediterranean favorites from Pita de’ Novo, like gyro, chicken, falafel and eggplant in sandwiches, salads and plates. There are appetizers like hummus, meat or veggie grape leaves, baba ghanoush and spinach pie.

Pita de’ Novo also has menu items with the seal of approval from the Ochsner Health Eat Fit program: the shwarma salad, tabouli salad, tahini salad, Turkish salad and de’ Novo salad.

Pita de’ Novo and Chick o’ Fish are located together at 8510 Youree Dr., Shreveport.
