You can get a similar result just mashing with a fork. Not as smooth but just as tasty and great on toast. I’d leave the egg out.

I am gutted that sardines are trending.

Oo yum! Smoked fish with cream cheese also makes a good pate.

canned seafood is the easiest thing to make pate out of. I used to make a killer escabeche mussels pate by just throwing into a blender a can of those (reserve some of the liquid, pour in as you blitz it if you want it smoother), half a small tub of cream cheese, a blob of mayo, and a hard boiled egg. Maybe a couple anchovies too, for some extra salty fishiness. Sprinkle with paprika. Don’t waste the premium stuff on this tho, the cheapest ones are just fine for this.

BUT, if you don’t get cheap ones nearby, you can substitute *anything* you got handy for them. Try it with a can of tuna and a dash of hot sauce.

Which tin was this? I could see it was one with lemon but is that a butter or olive oil base?

You can also make mayo with the oil from the cans, egg, onions/garlic, vinegar or lemon juice, salt even some fish and a hand blender, almost the same recipe.

    It’s insanely good.

A fork will do. It will be a bit coarse but still delicious. Make sure butter is soft. Pop into fridge if you like it firmer.

I did this with canned tuna many times and its great. Never thought of trying it with sardines but I have no reason to believe it will be any different. I have not used dill but instead use pickled cucumbers which I do recommend

I’m still really hesitant to try tinned fish so I joined this sub to try to entice me, this is a really good idea for trying sardines for the first time 🙂
