Visited Tomidokoro a few months ago and actually posted a more fulsome review in r/finedining but wanted to write a more brisk review for this subreddit. Chef Sato is pretty famous for offering a very high quality budget friendly experience that has captured the interest of a ton of influencers as well as regular folks.

Tomidokoro was a much harder reservation when the price was a lot lower and quality was a bit worse but Sato-sans bumped up the price and quality while maintaining a still very reasonable course price of 15,000 yen for a nigiri only course with roughly 13 nigiri, miso soup and tamago.

    Courses were:

    1. Akami, decent – honestly I’ve had better in the states
    2. Hagashi, pretty good
    3. Kohada, nice – kept the right amount of fishiness for his Shari imo
    4. Karei, pretty good – karei in the winter is crazy lol. Liked it a decent clip though
    5. Sumi ika, pretty good too – nice amount of chew, not so much it was annoying
    6. Sayori, pretty good sayori. One of the nice things I like about this place is the size of the neta. Not super dainty or anything like that
    6. Wild Kanpachi, literally the only thing he introduced lol – tennen kanpachi. I thought it was alright
    7. Mizudako, haven’t had this as nigiri in a long time. Pretty fun
    8. Ikura, nice but kinda fishy oddly
    9. Saba, eh probably the weakest of the meal
    10. Sawara – looks smoked, was really good. Sawara this year have been nice imo. Not like once in a while level good like the sanma but I’m pretty happy with most of what I’ve had
    11. Kuruma ebi, real good esp for the price. Wasn’t expecting it to be as nice as it is
    12. Uni, lowkey might’ve been one of the best of the meal. Really good uni gunkan
    13. Anago w tsume, really good up there for one of the better pieces of the meal
    13. Fish bone miso soup/misojirou
    14. Tamagoyaki

    Extras were

    1. Akagai, way too much wasabi with this
    2. Shiro amadai, really good. Liked it a lot, I tried asking for this as shirakawa since that’s just what I call it atp but they didn’t get it so I had to just say shiro amadai lol
    3. Shako, really good shako are pretty good rn. I like these more than the ones with eggs
    4. Hamaguri w tsume, pleasant before I got piledrived with wasabi

If you’re looking for sorta throw back old school edomae sushi with gentler but still akazu forward shari then this is a solid option. This isn’t one of the places I like all that much but I wouldn’t say I dislike it either. In Tokyo I think if you wanna do budget there’s better options and if you wanna plus it up a bit I think there’s better bougie lunch options as well.

I’m experimenting rewriting some of my longer, more in-depth reviews and tightening them up for this subreddit. This is the first of those, lmk whatcha think or if this is even something folks wanna see
