Nearly 60 establishments are participating in Thursday’s Dining Out for Life event.

SAN DIEGO — Dining Out for Life San Diego is underway, bringing together dozens of restaurants, bars and cafes across the county to support the San Diego LGBT Community Center. Participating establishments are donating a portion of their sales to the organization, which provides critical services to the San Diego LGBTQ+ community.

This year marks a significant milestone for the annual fundraising event. Crest Cafe joined dozens of other venues in hosting patrons Thursday, drawing a steady crowd that included members of the San Diego City Council.

Councilmember Stephen Whitburn emphasized the renewed urgency of supporting the community this year. “It’s always been an important event, but I think particularly with the environment and attacks,” Whitburn said.

Participating restaurants, bars and cafes across the county will donate a portion of their proceeds to the San Diego LGBT Community Center. The funds support health and wellness services, including HIV services and prevention programs that remain essential to the community’s well-being.

Recent budget constraints have made fundraising events like this one increasingly vital. A volunteer at the center noted that the organization has faced funding cuts in recent years while simultaneously confronting a troubling surge in hate crimes. “Our community is definitely feeling attacked right now  – it’s an easy way to support the community,” the volunteer said.

Nearly 60 establishments participated in Thursday’s Dining Out for Life event. Residents seeking to support the cause can find a complete list of participating locations on the LGBT Community Center’s website.
