For generations of families, Spiro’s Restaurant is their go-to place for milestone celebrations and fabulous, made-from-scratch food.
“I recently talked with a couple who had celebrated their first anniversary with us. Then, they celebrated their children’s births with us, followed by graduations, engagements, and even rehearsal dinners. Now, their kids are celebrating their own anniversaries with us,” said Todd Gillenardo, one of Spiro’s longtime managers.
It’s not just customers who have long-term relationships with Spiro’s. Its employees do, too.
“We have employees who started with us, then their kids worked for us, and now their grandkids work for us. It’s wild,” Todd said.
Now, in its 51st year, the family-owned restaurant, with locations in Chesterfield and St. Charles, is proud to be the restaurant of choice for so many of its customers’ celebrations.
“The first thing I ask when I come to the table is ‘What are we celebrating today?’ When people choose your restaurant to celebrate their special occasions, that’s a tremendous compliment.” Todd said. “It’s not a problem for us to host family gatherings of 10, 15, or up to 30 people. Our restaurants are spacious, and our menu features something for everyone – from a children’s menu all the way up to Mediterranean favorites to a Grecian-style rack of lamb to veal and hand-cut steaks.”
The restaurants also have private rooms that are available for gatherings of up to 50 people. Those rooms are ideal for rehearsal dinners, bridal and baby showers, and anniversary, graduation, or retirement parties.
“We’ve even hosted a few small weddings,” Tood noted.
Guests interested in booking one of Spiro’s rooms can inquire about availability via a form on the company website (spiros-restaurant.com) or by calling a manager at either location. It’s a good idea to get the room booked early, Todd advised. The menu and other details can follow later.
Another reservation guests will want to make soon is for Mother’s Day, which is Sunday, May 10.
“Mother’s Day is the one day that our St. Charles location is open on Sunday. We still have reservation times left, but I would suggest that you don’t delay, “ Todd said.
While the St. Charles location is typically closed on Sundays and Mondays, the Chesterfield location is open seven days a week, including from 4-9 p.m. on Sundays.
For guests who want to enjoy a spectacular Mediterranean menu but need a larger gathering space, the ideal solution is catering. Spiro’s can provide customized catering for a house party or a gathering of up to 500 guests. For casual gatherings, the build-your-own Gyro Bar, or Party Pans, featuring a wide selection of menu items, are always a good option.
“We love being part of so many celebrations, but we’re also open in Chesterfield for weekday lunches and at both locations for weeknight dinners,” Todd said. “We make everything from scratch, even our sauces and stocks. Our menu hasn’t changed much since 1975 because every time we try to replace or remove a dish, our customers push back. They tell us to keep the classics along with the new additions.”
One of the classics that customers crave is Spiro’s twice-baked potatoes. The restaurant makes thousands of them each week. Other favorite menu items include the 14-ounce charbroiled New York Strip Steak, delicately pan-broiled Dover Sole, and Steak Krasato, medallions of beef tenderloin that are sautéed tableside with onions, peppers, mushrooms and cabernet wine.
Whether it’s a milestone celebration or an ordinary Wednesday, the memories made at Spiro’s are sure to linger long after the meal is finished.
