Foreign olive oil stocks in Italy have nearly doubled from one year to the next. In a 2025 when domestic production is expected to replenish the reservoirs of large oil mills and cooperatives, especially in the South, it does not go unnoticed that the massive purchase of oil from across the border continues: as of November 30th they were stored in the silos of the oil industry 42.689 tons of EU extra virgin olive oil compared to 23.768 in the same period of 2024; Almost Furthermore, 9 thousand tons of extra EU oil and blends, against the 5.800 from the previous year.
And this, as mentioned, despite Italian extra virgin olive oil production has grown by almost 18%, passingor from 85 thousand tons to 101 thousand, with prospects of further interesting growth in December, mainly in Puglia and Calabria.
With the extra virgin that therefore overall it reaches almost 153 thousand tons, emerges, among other types of oil, quantities of virgin practically absent in both reference years (around 2 thousand tons), while The quantities of refined oil and olive pomace oil will increase compared to 2024. All things considered, the total oil stock in Italy is equal to 202.920 tons compared to 158.745 on 30 November 2024 (+27,7%).
Numbers that emerge from the timely report of the Fraud Repression based on the data of the Sian register, where Puglia holds the largest quantity of extra virgin olive oil, followed by the Toscana which instead is clearly first for the possession of refined olive oil (over 5 thousand tons compared to the thousand or so of Puglia, Umbria and Campania.
Third place for Sicily in terms of extra virgin olive oil, but overtaken by Calabria for overall provision of oil types, taking into account that the latter region holds over 5 thousand tons of lampante.
Another note: almost 21 million liters of oil are certified to date, of which 6,1 million are Terre di Bari PDO, 3,6 million are Sicilian PGI, and 3 million are Tuscan PGI.
