YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Tables and chairs will once again line North George Street in York this summer, as the city will resume a recent outdoor dining tradition that started during the COVID pandemic.
The road will be closed to traffic from 4:30 to 10 p.m. every Saturday from May 2 through Oct. 31, Downtown Inc. announced on Facebook.
Tutoni’s, Rockfish Public House, Bloom Kitchen & Bar and The Handsome Cab will all participate in the outdoor dining, Downtown Inc. said.
Outdoor dining started during the pandemic but continued until 2025, when then-mayor Eric Helfrich re-opened the road to traffic due to safety concerns.

Helfrich would later compromise, setting up concrete barriers along North George Street. This gave restaurants space to put some outdoor seating while still keeping the road open.
The concrete barriers wouldn’t last long under new mayor Sandie Walker. The city began removing the barriers in January.

“This is an invitation to the over 5 million visitors the City of York welcomes annually to soak in the energy of Goerge Street’s one-of-a-kind atmosphere this season,” Downtown York Inc. said in its post.
