OKLAHOMA CITY- (KOKH)) — Light rain fell down on Enid Saturday just a couple days after a devastating tornado shook the city. But it’s not stopping the local Salvation Army from helping folks recover and rebuild.

“We’re making sure they’re hydrated, we’re making sure they’re fed, and we’re offering emotional and spiritual care as well,” said LaKresha Ferguson, an Emergency Disaster Coordinator for the Salvation Army.

LaKresha and the team are set up at the Community Church of the Plains, which is a hub for food, water and medicine for those who’ve been impacted. She said the response from the community has been what Oklahomans have come to expect when disaster strikes.

“The community is definitely going to show up and help each other. And that’s what we have seen. And it’s been very arms open and welcoming for the salvation army coming in and people just showing up and saying what can we do to help?’ she said.

A different part of recovery in the church is a table at the center of the sanctuary, where items lost in the storm like a stuffed animal, a medal and an old photograph have been found, waiting for folks to retrieve them.

FOX 25 also ran into Caitlyn Root, who said $250 checks are available for storm victims.

“I’ve been out to Grayridge, I’m looking for families that we have names and addresses for but don’t have contact information for them yet. So we’re trying to get ahold of all the families that we can,” she said.

Root said they’re also working to get $1000 checks for families affected.

“We’re applying for another grant to try and get help to the families, and if that is approved, then we should be able to get them additional help. Hopefully within 10-14 days,” she added.

If you’ve been impacted and haven’t received a check yet, Root said to contact anyone who’s a member of the Northwest Oklahoma Association of Realtors. You can pick up checks at Century 21 on Main Street in Enid.
