Had a fun time at minibar (as expected), but it definitely wasn't everything we built it up to be. That's probably on us since we've had it on our radar for many years. Nonetheless, the meal felt like an incredibly high-end * or a lower **, but obviously that's all situational and subjective.
The highs were the cauliflower (truly amazing dish), the "cheese" walnut dish that tasted like an incredibly pungent Roquefort, the crab, the jamon chawanmushi, and the corn dessert. All the components of the turbot were amazing but the fish itself was clearly overcooked and dry. Everything else was good to very good with the exception of the tuna dish, which seemed incredibly out of place and underwhelming. Did not care too much for most of the pairings with the exception of the Chenin Blanc and the Super Tuscan. Service was mostly fun and engaging.
I'll also add that there weren't any over-the-top bullshit
supplement offerings which I'm hating more and more these days.
I would definitely recommend a visit, and in all reality, I would happily go back during a different season.

I think the Vegas version – é – is substantially superior. Your pics are incredible though. I had the same meal a few weeks ago and was indifferent (a solid *, surprised they’ve got **).
Glad you enjoyed it! I’ve gone twice and was blown away each time. I appreciated your comment about the supplements. Minibar has always been what you see on the menu is what you get with no up charging. Another thing I don’t like is supplements that are a substitute rather than an addition. I remember going to Per Se and being disappointed that you’re paying $100 for a supplement and you don’t get the original dish. No, I want both for $100. The dinner at Per Se was amazing BTW – just hated the supplement model.
Went to minibar in December 2023 and it was OK. Jont is considerably better of the two 2 stars in DC. I do think they’ve retained their second star simply because of the creativity/whimsy and not the actual taste and in that way I liken it to a less artistic Vespertine.
was here last month and I agree that it’s a little underwhelming. some really good dishes, but a lot of showmanship and a staff trying to keep everything on schedule for the second seating.
I really enjoy minibar. It’s so fun, and barmini is wonderful.
Its true about the food, but it’s still fun and good enough that I always try for reservations when visiting dc.
