    These aren’t french fries.

    They’re chips

Edit: regardless they look very tasty

These look so much like the fries my mom would make in the Fry Daddy when I was a kid. They were never fully crisp but still tasted so good.

  5. Suli_Croft

Homemade fries. Those look so scrumptious. Bon appetit.

My mom used to make them for us when we were very young. Yes they were soggy, floppy and fat but they were so good.

  6. Fries originate from the French speaking part of Belgium, more specifically the city of Namur, therefore BELGIAN FRIES!

You can literally buy them on almost every street corner in Belgium.

It is only that US WWII troops didn’t realise they were in Belgium when discovering them during the liberation.

Originally, it were small fish from the river Meuse that were fried this way (like the Spanish dish peccadillo). However, during the industrial revolution the river was too poluted for fish to survive, hence they switched to potatoes. Nowadays, the river is clean again with fish.

Looks like Pub Chips. Served in a wee basket with your fried chicken and coleslaw. 10/10 for quality homemade chips, but french fries this is not.

Not that it matters (since fries and chips are basically the same), but these look so well executed as “chips” that they should use the name. They have earned it. Looks great!

This comment section is why I don’t post to any food subs anymore.

  10. These are chips. All french fries are chips but not all chips are french fries

These look like chippy chips. Please bless us with the method

Those are nice looking deep fried potato pieces.

OP is probably American, hence why he calls them French fries. Yes we know thick ones like this in the UK are called chips but in the US they’re called steak FRIES instead. Since it’s OP’s dish is made in the US, these are French fries.

  16. French fries, chips, whatever you want to call them – They look delicious. Well done.

No one in america calls fries chips, it has nothing to do with shape and size. 4 countries in the world use the words fries vs chips based on the cut of the fried potato, and anyone *correcting* people based on this limited world view should stop being annoying

I could cut a fry nicely inbetween a fry and chip size and have all you “its chips” fuckers arguing amongst yourselves which to call it

  18. hippiediscoshit

    These are steak fries.

French fries are thinner sliced (frenched).

    Chips are flat.

    But they sure look good.

Have any details on your cook method? 🙂 they look great.

My mom’s fries look exactly like yours! Especially how you chopped them. Such a comfort food when I was growing up. Whenever I tried to make them, they don’t look like that 🙁

Fried potatoes. Next time fry them at a slightly lower temp for 5 min, then put them in the freezer for 15 min, thenfinish frying them at the temperature you fried those. Should make them crispier.
