I used to clean it every week, and one day I stopped..
Did not clean it for months (maybe year honestly).. well I always would rinse it with tap water after every shot, I guess it’s was not enough.
It took 3 round of Cafiza and ultra sound.

This is why I started using the thin puck screens. Just one layer, easy to clean, does the job just the same.
I thought you were fizzing up some flat lager….wtf dude…
I just use paper filters.
Hot take: puck screens are gross and a waste of time.
They fix a problem easily preventable by having the right headspace.
Forbidden latte
I love my puck screen. My pucks knock out dry and leave basically nothing behind in my portafilter. Group head doesn’t come in touch with the grounds, makes cleaning a breeze. Guess I should look at my screen in some cafiza now 😡
I always knock out the pick screen an end up tossing it by accident
I hit mine with the steam wand.
It’s all good at least you’re back on the train. Wonder if you noticed the difference in taste once cleaned? Hard to get great shots without proper maintenance/cleaning.
On a side note, I love cafiza and for the green tree smoking enthusiasts it’s the best piece cleaner you can buy. Just set your piece in hot water, scoop of cafiza and let it do the rest.
Basket is also one of those things that is overlooked for a Cafiza cleaning.
After the 1st year they contribute to the flavour
Any recommendations for a decent ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning espresso machine parts? So many options on Amazon…
Sorry, all, help me out here.
Did you neglect to clean the screens? Neglect to back flush?
I never clean the steam wand (which is what I assume is in the glass) other then a wipe and purge.
What am I missing?
At least you cleaned it

I was wondering why you were steaming beer.
Is that how you’re supposed to clean the baskets..?
Wait. You guys clean your puck screens?
The puck screens that are a single piece of metal with the perforations in them, are way simpler. Those mesh ones trap so much coffee grounds in them.
literally dirty espresso
Just to clarify (pardon the pun) — is the method here putting the puck screen in a glass of water with a scoop of Cafiza and then using the steam wand to agitate it and dislodge the residue? Thanks
I recently upgraded from the woven mesh to a laser cut flat disc and it stays much cleaner
I stopped using the mesh screens and use the thin 0.2mm screens from mhw3 bomber. People say mesh screens distribute water evenly but as long as your puck prep is consistent I haven’t noticed a change in taste. I only use puck screens to keep grounds from getting in the shower head. The thin ones keep grounds out and are way easier to clean.
This is why i switched to a lever machine with auto dump.
None of this coffee going back through the system lark 🤪🤭😘
Mines Nearly due for its 6 ish monthly wipe over!!
….. And then i re-read the post. That’s just from a puck screen 🤭🤦🏼♂️
Thought it’s a pint of stout at first while scrolling.
What are you doing with the stream wand?
Sorry. Are you using cafiza on your steam wand?
So i guess there’s no point in my saying that it wasn’t ready, is there?
Paper filter 👍🏽
this is why i just sandwich 2 papaer filters.
good way to easily clean those mesh ones is to just steam blast it after every use btw, keeps it reasonably clean until the routine cafiza machine clean
I rinse mine every day after back to back shots. And then Cafiza soak the basket and that once a month or so I use steam in normal water at after Cafiza to clean the final bits and make sure no Cafiza residue is left over. This reminds me I haven’t opened my grinder in months lol.
